A lot of great ideas here, I'd just like to add my support for a few.

These are probably possible in firmware, so you might not even need a MkII :
1 Indicator that music is running through the system
2 Basic standby mode with dimmed display and reduced power consumption.
3 Renaming inputs
4 Naming Dirac presets

These need hardware, so a real MkII:
1 Adding optical out and HDMI input
2 Full standby mode, adding 12V trigger output for controlling amp

The standby mode implementation is really important, Developers need to be careful, since you don't want to lose your interfaces to Roon or DLNA. I have a NAD T758 V3, and the BlueOS implementation is so bad that when it goes into standby, there's about a 50-50 chance that it will not reconnect to Roon on restart. It was simply unusable. So don't do that.

I think adding some of these to the current SHD will make a very good product into an excellent one!

Ability to assign any preset as default for an input, including Dirac state. Example, when I select LAN input, automatically apply Preset 3 with Dirac to on.

Cheers,
Robert

Bravo Nocko!

Literally everything you listed I have wanted at one time or another, and some of them all the time.

I would like to add the ability to down sample the outputs on the SHD Studio. There are some old DACs I would love to use with the SHD, but it always seems to output 96khz no matter what and they simply can't function with this.

HDMI ARC input
Input auto sensing
More TOSlink inputs
Better display showing e.g. bitrate & sampling freq (see hegel, matrix for good looking displays)

No Dirac but FIR filters instead with capacity to run longer filters than OpenDRC's one

Hi,
I am late for the party, but I would like to see in the future Mk2:
1. Four sub outs with Dirac Bass control.
2. Wifi Dirac control built in.
3. Hdmi arc.
4. A streamer that works.
5. Pure analog input with Ht bypass.
6. 12v trigger

 Thanks

Just noticed that I contributed to this thread nearly four years ago. Sadly miniDSP only implemented one single wish (Display auto-off) and that even this feature is now critically discussed in other threads. For now, I don't use the Device Console software.

Meanwhile I am using an SHD (no "studio" anymore) mainly as DAC and to implement Dirac. My whole stereo systems has two sources (TV, Music Streamer) and needs an volume fixed Home Theater input. Sadly I must admit that  you can't really use the SHD as a real preamp in this small setup where most of the sources are managed by an external Surround preamp. Even for stereo / volume control I still use an old but really good and pricey preamp because I can control this unit perfectly with my home control system using its RS232 (!) interface.

As a DAC and to implement Dirac the SHD is great.

When I bought the unit, I knew what I get and so I can't complain. Looking at other manufacturers, for example NAD and my M17 V2, they don't act any better. Nothing has changed the last 15 years: Instead of using an active community to enhance products by the ideas and suggestions of folks like us we are used as cheap betatesters.

So what have I learned:
In the last 15 years manufacturers got the ability to change their products with an over-the-air-update.
For the same time, manufactures can get help from their customers to wipe out bugs in their products and to collect ideas from them to improve their products using sites like these.
But they don't...

So don't buy anything thinking it will be better with an future software update. It won't.

To be not too cynical at all: Looking at Dave's great Touchcontrol App for iOS or the unbelievable work of Michael H. to maintain the Squeezeserver alive for decades give's me hope that not all is lost. Sorry for being off-topic...
Nocko!

Hi Nocko ,
You are right!

I don't  even know if the Shd will ever get an upgrade at all.

Thanks
Antonio

Well, I think this point of view is a bit too pessimistic. I, too, think you should not buy a product with known glitches and hope that bugs will be fixed in future updates. Wait until they are fixed and buy then. And sometimes new functions can be worse than the product did behave before. But some updates to the SHD brought bugfixes. I remember volume control issues, spotify issues and remote control issues that have been fixed, if I am not wrong. There certainly were other fixes as well...
