Let's start go ahead.
I like my SHD, very much, but in my opinion this unit must be upgrade with new functions.
I use SHD also as a preamplifier in my system, and i think that if you want a better pre you need to spend lot of money.

What i woul like to have in the next version is:
USB digital out or I2S
Analog Phono MM (MC maybe) input
a better large display
And you ?

An indicator that music is playing. Handy when error tracking.

I bought a second hand power amp just to see how SHD Studio can be used as pre. This is my first experience with using a power amp. I get loud noises when I shut down the SHD Studio for a quick reset while the power amp is on. Is that normal or is it my power amp? I know it's better to shut down the power amp first. But do all power amps make quite a noise when you don't?

@jaaptina

SHD Studio is all digital. There isn't any way for the DSP to make pop noise... We have the SHD Studio here connected to either DACs or plate amps (i.e. amps with digital audio). No issues of noise..

Most likely that your amp are behaving this way... May need to double check that.

PS: By respect for OP, please don't post with completely unrelated issues from the OP. aka suggestion thread for future feature. THanks!

Back to topic:

My wishes - most of these are software based and could perhaps be implemented with new firmware :) :) :) :

- an option to switch off the display, so that it only lights up when changes appear
- the option to fix volume output to -0dB (or any other volume)
- renaming presets (take the names from the Dirac slots)
- renaming inputs
- a standby mode
- full IP-/ serial control of basic functions like input, preset, display and volume (nowadays this seems to be mandatory for installers)
- allow Dirac measurements using the WI-DG connection so that we get rid of USB cables (I know that this is a restriction from the Dirac team, but hey, just wishful thinking...)
- and yes, an indicator showing that there is an input might be useful while installing

Concerning new hardware:
- a huge colorful display (that I can switch off :))
- separate buttons for inputs and presets
- optical outputs, HDMI inputs

It would be really great if some of the options above could be implemented by a software / firmware update :)

On the other hand: Most threads like these read as if the device isn't proper constructed. To those not using a SHD (Studio): I own a SHD Studio since a few days. I am familiar with room correction software and hardware and used this since years (Tact, Accuphase and so on). The SHD devices are by far the best hardware option to implement a decent digital room correction without spending thousands of $$$. Don't misunderstand this thread. Go ahead and buy one, don't think too long as I did...

All features proposed by Nocko! would be of great value to SHD I believe.

@Nocko! 's list would make me very happy..
in addition:
a few more spdif (coax or optical) digital inputs would be nice, I have in use TV, CD, STB and it's full... would like to add a BT receiver or second player as well
and full control over ethernet, without having to use USB or WI-DG (like the PWR-ICE has)

Agree, the SHD shall have the ability to do all control via the network interface. I`m not a current owner (sooner or later I will buy...)but USB control is also the weak point with my DDRC24 and was with the DDRC88.
Important point for me also:
Option to have 2x6 or 2x8 plugin and ability even without additional DAC`s. -> 3Way speakers is standard in my opinion.
OR
For me a SHD between SHD full and SHD Studio would make sense:
Full input ability but no DAC. There is a lot of DAC and digital in amps on the market, but hard to find ADC that works fine.
In digital only execution additional channels are cheap to have.

My wish list is (hopefully) simple...

-- 8 x balanced XLR output
-- leave all inputs as is, no change
-- options for one or more 2-in / 8-out up-mix plug ins for pseudo surround sound for stereo sources
-- USB input able to drive all 8 channels out, eg for surround sound etc
-- colour display that has the option of nice retro looking stereo VU meters or 8-channel RTA Green/Orange/Red volume bars (dimmable)
-- all the fixes and minor updates that didn't make it into version-1
-- nice aluminium remote control for source and preset selection, and master volume control

A final pre-production version sent to Amirm of AudioScienceReview.com for full testing

A modest price increase, say less than 50% increase, if possible

Definitely the ability to rename inputs. Having my wife remember that she needs to go to Toslink to listen to the TV, RCA for the turntable and LAN for streaming is the only thing that detracts from an excellent WAF for this device.

That sounds fairly normal. It would be a bad idea to switch off any pre-amp whilst a power amp connected to speakers is on. I've done it by mistake once or twice with my Densen pre-amp, resulting in a loud pop through the speakers.

These are all good suggestions, although some might lead into a new model instead of an SHD MkII - for instance the 8 channel stuff...

A Home Theater Bypass feature. Ideally adding an analog subwoofer input as part of this bypass. Too many otherwise excellent preamps/integrated amps with an HT feature do not include Sub input/output.

Surprised no one has asked for the display to show bit depth/sample rate.

Cheers,
Robert

HDMI in and out - so you can have it running before the TV

More outputs so you can do 3 way speakers without crossovers, like a DEQX

1) HT bypass mode assignable to an analog input , perhaps also implement a minimal latency for this mode and let the receiver do the room correction. This is a must have for me and the reason holding me back from purchasing an SHD
2) 12V Trigger
3) silver front plate

I'm only 4 days into figuring out functionality, but I do love the fidelity of the player which is one primary reason I've acquired the SHD Studio.
The most important improvements to me would be:

1 Front panel power switch
2 Front panel USB port (or at least 2 in rear)
3 Fixed level (or lock) ability or dedicated output
4 Auto scan USB drive upon insertion
5 Ability to change source labels (Why does USB audio play on LAN?)
6 I2S output
