Over 2 years and counting and this was never done... I wouldn't hold your breath despite how useful this feature would be.

I may be using the wrong words but I have exported a preset to a file...and then to be sure I was still using the same settings imported them.

It appears it only import them to the same preset number as it was when exported.

I wish someone with more experience could clarify and also how to move to a new pc and keep all 4 presets....

I'd make sure you save everything. It may well be possible to copy files over but you'd want a back-up in case it didn't work.

(I've only ever used miniDSP plugins on my current laptop so I have no experience to draw on here.)

Well it happened!

I now have a new Windows laptop and need to install the plugin on the new laptop and hopefully not mess up my MiniDSP settings.

As noted above I can save each preset as a file.  That is how it works right?  When you are in a preset and save the file it saves THAT preset you are on and click on to export to a file not all of them?

And then import each into the plugin on the new PC.  And then connect.....and it will probably complain there is a difference but I will have that backup.

Sure would be nice if MiniDSP would have an FAQ on how to move to a new PC.  It may be as easy as copying the Minidsp folder under documents which seems to be where the program save things. But I am not going with the a guess.

I also just realized I will probably have to contact support about the software license. It may not like being installed a second time on a new PC?

Thanks for any thoughts,
BJB

correct.  each preset into a separate file (select preset, export, next....).    and importing the same (select preset, import, next.....)

My understanding is that you can install the plugin on more than 1 PC, as long as they are all your PC's

One more vote to support the feature. Config 1, Config 2, Config 3, Config 4 is a tough user experience. I can't remember what was 2 hours ago... I want it to name House, Deep Bass, Flat etc...

I just bought a MiniDSP SHD Power and I'm using Dirac and measuring and save my settings with descriptive names... and then I find out that on the MiniDSP SHD display all I get to see is "Preset 1", "Preset 3"...

Oh come one, just give me some characters to name my presets - even if it's just 8 characters!
This is absolutely one of those things where I think that the developers only used the device in a development environment, not as a real-world user.. :-/

Pygmy,
I feel your pain.  I was similarly shocked when I found out that you could not name the presets. Sadly I keep a piece of PAPER with my calibration microphone that says Preset 1 is...Preset 2 is....

Then I export each preset with a ridiculously long descriptive  filename.

I would have thought by now, with all the new products and software released since then it could have been fixed.

Adding my +1 to really wishing for this feature. Who remembers what Preset 3 is a few months after setup?? Not me, that's for sure :)

They’ve already answered this. There is never going to be any ability to change the name of presets in a way that displays on the front of the SHD series. They say it’s impossible. Who knows how they got themselves to a place where they didn’t anticipate people wanting this and boxing themselves in, but they did.

Where have you seen this? The post from DevTeam earlier in this thread didn't say this.
