I recently got the SHD and it is quite an impressive machine.

I am using Tidal via the built-in volumio, which works but the interface is not great. I am used to using the desktop version of Tidal and the volumio webpage is nowhere near as nice. I've read that the volumio app is exactly the same as the web interface (really?), so no help there.

Is there any way to use the native Tidal app as teh interface to volumio's Tidal plugin? And no I do not want to use upnp.

You could just connect the computer to the SHD with a USB cable - would that work for you?

You could use Bubbleupnp, Mcontrol or simelair control app instead of Volumio app.

That is pretty much exactly what I am working to avoid, so unfortunate not. I'd like my wife to be able to control the music from her phone (or my phone) and also not have the computer on. The computer is also a bit far for USB. I guess I could add a laptop to the music system but I'm trying to keep this minimalistic, the main point of the SHD for me.

Thanks for the thought.

petersv, thanks. I did try out AirPlay. It does allow the use of the native app of course but it locks control to 1 device which I was trying to avoid and worse it doesn't quite have as much gain/signal, so volume is lower which is already stretched with my low power amps. As far as I can tell fidelity is also lower, but to be fair I did not closely compare. Yeah, either way, upnp and Airplay are not my solutions for this.

I really hope that the Tidal interface in Volumio is improved because it is really lacking and buggy. Maybe that is just the whole of the Volumio interface I'm not sure.

I should say, the SHD as a device is really super so my complains although I think legit, do not diminish a truly fabulous device by much.

Just make sure when you connect via AirPlay you turn the volume on your iOS device upto 100% to avoid any loss
