I've had my SHD for a few months now. My first curve was the automatically generated target, which was nice. I did some reading and developed a curve like a ski hill, with the base elevated and then sloping down, then straight line slightly declining toward the top end. Today I measured my room again because I toed in the speakers a bit more and moved my listening chair back. I did more reading and decided to try the Harmon curve that comes with Dirac. Put this in slot #3 and the ski hill in slot #4 so I can compare. #3 sounds really nice, and #4 definitely has too much base. I like to tweak things like this, so just curious what curves others are using for their Dirac setups that I can try. I realize each room will cause differences but overall the curve philosophy should be consistent.

I've been experimenting with target curve for a few weeks. I think I've settled now. But I thought so before...

I have not tried to get used to the standard curve with a small slope downwards.

Instead what I like is to stick to the original curve, but with a little flattening. That way I keep the sound of the speakers I've come to like. They are great speakers. While eliminating the bass boost and improving the overall soundscape. It has really improved a lot.

While that sounded good in general I found some tracks with distortion at certain moments. It proved to be related to spots where the target curve bridged a dip in the measured response at 110Hz and 300Hz.

So I lowered the curve a few dB and made the curve follow the deepest dips in the measured response.

To be able to follow the dips closely I made a separate L and R curve.

Already steady on these curves for three weeks!







I also tried lowering the curve so I could make a curve without dips. But I didn't like the overall volume going down that much.

I have a pair of B&W 805 Diamond bookshelf speakers and a REL R-218 subwoofer.

After much experimenting with various common and popular target curves, I found that for me, the best response was modelling my target curves off the larger, more expensive floor standers in my speaker's product range.

I decided to build my target curves off in-room measured response curves of the larger B&W 802 D3 speakers... I limited the dirac correction to the lowest 100hz to maintain the voice of my speakers and to be honest... I couldn't be happier with the outcome : )

Thank you miniDSP for making the SHD Studio.... its really a game changer... (btw, you need to get this thing Roon Ready for the industry to take this device seriously... your output digital sound quality bests the Auralic Aries and you manage to do this with a cheap USD$2.78 PSU... how?? get this thing Roon Ready then increase your price by USD$500 a device and watch your sales take off)

Thanks for contributing to this topic! I've been traveling for a few weeks so unable to continue my curve study, but I will when I return next week. I just can't leave my SHD alone--really love the ability to play with the curve. I haven't tried separate L/R curves yet, but that's now on my list!
