Volumio on SHD too sluggish to use! Solved 4 years 2 months ago #42851

My library is 22k tracks. I have tried using it directly from my Qnap NAS (nfs and cifs), with Twonky and Mimimserver DLNA. Also copied to USB drive and connected directly to SHD.

Nothing has been remotely acceptable. It is ridiculously slow. I've seen posts about large libraries but none have helped.

Does anyone have any ideas on resolving this?

Hi, what model is the QNAP?

I'm wondering how you're using the minimserver setup. When you tried that, you disconnected the NAS mount from Volumio and use a control point like Linn Kazoo?

All navigation of music, regardless of the source takes so long you think it has frozen up. To open a genre, rock for example, is taking 2 or 3 minutes.

John, my qnap is ts-221. It's not a high end model. I have used it for my music for a few years, mainly with LMS and it has always been responsive.

I have not tried unmounting the nas when using minimserver because I didnt want it to rescan if I reconnect. I will try that though.

I dont use anything to control minimserver, just volumio under media servers.

Not a solution, but an alternative might be to run LMS/squeezeserver on your QNAP and then use the squeezelite on your SHD. I am doing that but with homemade linux storage machine. LMS is pretty good with large libraries, e.g., >200K.

( A way to install and uses LogitechMediaServer, on Qnap Nas-systems with QTS 4.0 or higher and 86/i*86/X86_64/arm5te/armhf/aarch64/arm_64 architecture ! )

If you have Minimserver running on the NAS you don't need Volumio indexing. With Bubbleupnp on Android or an other upnp/dlna control point on iPhone you can stream music to Minidsp without using the Volumio library.

Unfortunately my qnap model is not supported as it has a marvell CPU. Qnap used to have an lms app but they dropped it a while back.

I understand. Volumio indexed my library because of the network mount I added, but minimserver indexed on the nas.

Interesting development... when I removed the nas mount and the USB drive, minimserver started working much faster. Actually pretty good!

It's like the index volumio built was somehow interfering with minimserver!

Hm. Well that's good!

You could also try using an external client e.g. Linn Kazoo (www.linn.co.uk/software) instead of the Volumio UI.
