Hey guys,

I got the SHD for about 10 days or so now and I'm so happy about it.

I'm using Tidal for 99% of music listening. When streaming directly with Volumio the sound is awesome, very clean, very defined, just a pure pleasure. But I'm not happy with Volumio, since sometimes playback just stops (no, no networking problem) and Tidal sorting of albums doesn't work correctly for me. Since I was always keeping an eye open for Roon, I got myself an Intel NUC8i7 with Roon and connected it via USB to the SHD with the provided USB cable by miniDSP.

But the sound just isn't the same as over LAN and Volumio, it's narrower and the bass is a little less precise and more boomy. Still good but over LAN it is clearly better.

So my question is, what can I do, to achieve the same result as with LAN? Better Power supply for the NUC? Wait for the SHD to become RoonReady and stream via ethernet? I like Roon as software much more than Volumio, but I like the pure SHD sound more than the USB/NUC sound :silly:

Maybe off topic, but if you don't mind, what software are you running on the NUC? I just got the same NUC last week and installed Roon Rock but cannot get Tidal to play at all. Roon support has not been helpful.

I have an Allo Digione with Ropieee which outputs spdif to my SHD.

Another way not to use Volumio library server is activating dlna on Volumio. I have Minimserver as music server installed on a NAS. With Bubbleupnp on Android I send music to the Minidsp SHD Studio. Sounds great, no problems with streaming.
Additional to Minimserver you can also install Minimstreamer on the NAS to activate it as OpenHome music server. OpenHome keeps the playlist going even when your phone is off.
