just out of curiosity, did you notice an improvement on SQ when using the SBooster over the included smps included? I’ve heard reports that the SHD Studio seems to be less impacted by power supply quality? Thanks

I have not experienced a difference. Comparing is to difficult. Still I stick with the SBooster.

Yep, it takes some time to switch ps and reboot the shd, so rather difficult to compare. Hans Beekhuizen also reported neglectible difference when using a "better" ps vs the meanwell.

Any comment from the manufacturer as to whether there is a technical reason (other than cost reduction) for not having the ability to turn this on and off on this otherwise sympathetic little device?

I got my brand new SHD today and set up my first Dirac Live project.

I am here after looking and looking for the place in the 89 page manual that tells the end user how to turn off the display. LOL, I now realize that there is no way of doing this.

Thank you folks for the forum and count me in as someone who would like to turn off the display. I'm old school and believe that I will burn out the display if I don't turn it off.

Any technical comments on my concern? For now I'll just leave it on and put some LightDims over the display.

I'm another SHD user who would like to see a standby mode. Not a show-stopper or major concern for me, but why not have the possibility to turn off the display or go into lower-power mode?

I hear a big difference with a better power supply. It detracts from SQ with supplied ps, not usable for me like that. No problem though, not unexpected, $16 ps... Don't ask Archimago though.

Any chances for the dev team to implement a LCD screen auto-dimming feature ?

I emailed support about the lack of a screen standby control and received this response today:

Welcome to the miniDSP community with your SHD. Hoping you’re enjoying it!
No worries on the LCD, it’s indeed fine to be ON all the times. We’ll soon release a new firmware to put the LCD on standby in the coming weeks. Thanks for your patience.
Best Regards

DevTeam

Recent owner of a 22D model. The Standby issue for me and/or the lack of an On/Off button, is the flow on effect it has to my Active Kii 3's.

The Kii 3's go into standby mode after 10 minutes of no signal. With the 22D in the chain the Actives no-long go into standby mode at all.

So the argument being offered about the low cost of having the 22D on is now increased with the Kii 3's and the Kii 3 Controller being on.

Until the Standby option arrives in a new firmware update I just unplug the 22D from the power source each night.

Regards Cazzesman

You're in the wrong section of the forum for the 22D. This is for the SHD series and presumably an entirely different firmware... In any case, the note from Dev quoted above says the DISPLAY will go on standby with the new firmware instead of being on all the time. Again, not relevant to your product.

Weird, though - assuming you're processing no signal, what signal could the Kii's be picking up? You might want to check with them and see if their sensitivity can be adjusted.

Cheers,
Robert

cazzesman,

I suspect your Kii 3's are looking for cessation of the S/PDIF data stream to go into standby mode. Unfortunately, the 22D model outputs a valid S/PDIF signal at all times when the power is on. So, you're stuck until devteam issues some sort of "standby" firmware which might solve this issue.

Regardless, as Robert noted, you're in the wrong area of the miniDSP forum with this query.

Dave.

Doh! Good catch, Dave, I'm not familiar with the 22D and didn't realize it didn't include a DAC.

Cheers,
Robert
