Background info: I plan to use the Dutch&Dutch 8c active speaker and would like to use their AES digital input.

Some question from me:
1. is the digital output of the SHD (non-Studio version) volume adjustable?
2. If the volume is adjustable I guess this is done on the digital domain, what resolution (24 Bit, 32Bit) is used and from what point do I need to expect signal quality to decrease?
3.the digi out is SPDIF, can I connect this to an AES3 input (using this adapter cable)?

Thanks for replay
(Btw, using the SHD in my current setup with KH310 speaker is really fun. Thanks for this product)

Excellent choice of the loadspeaker.

The cable is a correct one, because it also does the impedance "conversion" 110 - 75 ohm

Speaker not finally decided ... quite a significant budget...

the major question is, can I control the volume of the digi out of the SHD?

Hey .. just to further add to this topic,

Can the volume control simultaneously adjust both digital and analog outputs?

My use case is to run the digital outs into a digital active speaker - and the analog output into a sub - thus the need to use both digital and analog outputs at the same time .. and of course use dirac!

Kind regards,

Ash

@Ash

Indeed, both digital and analog outputs are controlled by the master volume control.

Interesting topic… I am evaluating the functions proposed by the SHD, so it seems that I could:

- Design a two ways crossover with associated EQ and connect the two stereo amplifiers using the 4 analog outs
- Connect my Labgruppen sub amplifiers via the digital out
- Control the volume of the 3 amplifiers

Am I correct in my understanding of the possibilities?

And I suppose I can leave the Dirac Live off and just work with the 10 PEQ!

Unfortunately the SHD only has 4 independent output channels so you can't properly integrate a subwoofer with a 2-way active setup as you describe. The digital outputs carry the same signal information as the analogue outputs, just in the digital domain. So all you could do would be to send the same signal to your sub as you do to one (but not both) of your mid/bass drivers. One important thing you couldn't do would be to adjust the time delay between your main speakers and subwoofer.

There are other miniDSP products with more output channels but I have no personal experience of using them to be able to comment on how they compare in use.

Thank you!

After a closer look, it seems that the 4x10 HD could do the job…
