Hi all,

I am getting a 'bad sound' when using dirac. As if the speakers is broken. This is OK when i turn off dirac (no issue with speakers).

My setup:
Digital sources -> Minidsp SHD set at 0.0dB volume -> XLR Analog out to pre-amp -> XLR to Ncore Hypex amp -> Speakers.

In the Dirac Live application i have the Minidsp SHD set at 0.00dB. Microphone is set so the noise level is no more than -24db. I adjust volume on my pre-amplifer.

What could i be doing wrong?

@janterje

I think that the issue is the way you maybe did the measurement?
When performing a measurement, you want to slowly increase the volume BUT don't go to 100%. The volume for the mic shouldn't be at -24dB. That's too low. i.e. you're reversing the ratio..

Best to have maximum volume at -10dB in Dirac live, then have the microphone at higher gain. If the level is still too low, increase the volume at the amplifier.

Hoping this info helps.

Hello DevTeam,

I have a similar Issue. Though I did the Volume leveling as recommended in the manual.
Both the input gain for the mic and the volume of the speakers were in the middle of the "green" fields.

When Dirac is one I have really bad sound (sounds like a broken woofer) on one(!) channel (right) - the other one seems to be ok or the issue is so small that I can't identify it.
When Dirac is off - everything is just fine.

I'm not sure what the problem could be....

@Kolja

Unfortunately we have limited information here without the Dirac live project or details of the target curve but it's most likely a simple measurement issue.. Did you have the SHD plugin correctly configured when you ran Dirac Live?

Is that just ONE project that you measured?

Feel free to start a tech support tix with our team by sharing your Dirac live project + SHD files loaded. (support.minidsp.com)

Thank you...
I will make thee measurements again. I have an idea that there might have been too many/loud background-noises while doing the initial measurements.
If this won't solve the issue, I will contact the support!

I just had a very similar experience with a very similar set up (D & D 8C). Today I took new measurements, using the chair as opposed to the sofa and keeping the input at -10. Totally different measurements! The prior measurements had suggested that there is a bump in the bass whereas todays measurements showed a dip between 20 and 50 (which would be expected given it's a small room). The application of the filter now sounds great. So remeasure!
