Seriously excited about the new SHD Series of Pre-Processors!!

The Living Room grade front fascia, the 2x4 capability for X-overs / Subs, the all-digital option as well as the AD one.

Already have Volumio on a Raspberry Pi, so know that's a great bonus!

Now keen to find out the price range for both options... Devteam?

heheh.. Glad to hear that you like everything you're seeing here! It puts a big smile on our face knowing all the hard work we've put in it for the past few months!

Down to the price range, a great question as we're now nailing it as we speak. As units are 90% built now, we have a much better idea of the scale of the project and cost we can achieve. Stay tuned to the product page here for more info as we're literally adding more info everyday! :-)

Very excited for the SHD! It really seems like a device meant to go head to head with the "audiophile" offerings, while being great value, however, I think that a few features would really help it secure a position as a premium product:

  1. Integration with Dirac Live 2. Due to Dirac's apparent move to more better UI and yearly upgrade modules, I think it would be great to get a guarantee that this product is going to stay relevant for years to come
  2. The ability to change to other Linux operating systems on the ARM streamer. If Volumio becomes obsolete, or a better distros comes about (some people prefer Roon end points, not me), it would be good to be able to pick something else.
  3. Integration of OLED with Volumio. Most other streamers out there have some kind of display to show what is playing or other info. I've seen quite a few Volumio implementations that do this, perhaps it could be released as a Volumio plugin?
  4. Wi-Fi. I understand that this is pretty much an impossibility now that the hardware is made, but perhaps the WI-DG could be made to act as a "bridge" for the SHD

It would be nice to know if these could be added, as I'm sure many people would value them. Thanks so much for bringing out this product!

I replied with these questions on the other SHD post but they didnt make it over to this one... so I will re-reply with these q's

Will the SHD front panel volume control, screen and I/O's be available for current Nanosharc owners? I would love to be able to use my current kit nanosharc with the front panel and dual spdif outputs! Essentially, the Nanosharc kit is rather limited on its own... Could I eventually purchase the rest of the components to eventually have my own SHD Studio?

Hoping you make these kits available!

@SteveMiller

The nanoSHARC and SHD have very little in common but maybe you're already guessing this? We can't even picture how these board would ever be working together, nothing goes together from an architecture point of view.. :-) When you look at an SHD studio, it's not at all the same layout/brains inside.. It won't work I'm afraid.. :-(

As for the LCD, we have no plans at this time (pin out/power supply scheme/fw are all very different) but we can think in the future if we ever think it's worth it.. As per our policy, we'd never mention it until it's actually ready I'm afraid..

@Neocortex

Thanks for your feedback and improvement ideas...
When a product isn't even out and there is already a long wishlist of new things to do, it's typically a recipe for so called "feature creep"= recipe for disaster.. :-) Little known to people is the complexity behind these units and the amount of hours/months that went into it. When one start to add 100 features for a release, it's usually a great idea to have a brick/or bug riddled unit.. :-)

@miniDSP, we prefer continuous upgrades overtime as we've done succesfully for all our product line already... :-)
Most of the ideas you listed below are firmware/software upgrades which indeed we can consider in the future. Not saying it would happen though, just stating it's indeed possible to add these...

Thanks for the feedback!

OK Geez... Since it seems to be the same Sharc ADSP21489 on both boards is guess I made an assumption.

Good to hear that you are at least considering future upgrades. Some companies in your field release a half-baked product or something with more potential, My FiiO X1II will probably never get an update that makes it better to use... I also understand though that getting a stable product needs to be done first :)

Very interesting product - it ticks almost all my boxes for a stereo pre-processor with room correction and subwoofer integration :)

I have a couple of questions:

1) my power amplifier has a 12v trigger input, to turn it on remotely. I don't see a 12v trigger output on either of the SHD models. Any suggestions for another method to trigger my power amp? I use a Harmony Elite to control everything right now, but the power amp has no IR receiver, so must rely on being triggered on/off by another device.

2) I have 3 devices with only optical digital outputs. What would be the best way to connect them to a SHD? Any kind of switching solution must work with my Harmony Elite.

Thanks,
Liam

really exited about this product, can we already start the countdown?

btw: will there also be a "budget" version without Dirac?

Well done guys. Possible replacement for my 4x10hd and recently departed DDRC22D.

Great to see XLR's on the balanced outs and two digital outs with delays at 96kHz.

Dirac integrated is a nice to have but good to have a cheaper option excluding Dirac.

Most importantly for me, whats been done to improve analogue performance. AD & DA? I'm currently using an external ADC for analogue sources and an external DAC for main speakers because the analogue performance of the 4x10 is pretty average.

Have you improved the SRC?

Has digital attenuation been improved?

Brilliant job with the WI DG Wifi Bridge BTW. My wife is delighted she no longer has to jump over a USB cable when I'm fiddling :)
