In and Out from the same USB port doesn't work with REW?

Generator works fine (sound from speakers).  RTA works fine (shows sound when manually making noise into the mic). But when the Generator is turned on, the RTA complains there is no input signal. And "Check Levels" doesn't work in Preferences for the same reason.
Machine is windows 10 with attached USB Presonus AudioBox for both input/output. Maybe REW can't handle simultaneous in/out from the same USB port?
