I'm using my XMC-1 Microphone as an SPL meter and for some reason the SPL meter shows ~90 db in room even if its dead silent. I can't get it to show the 75 db that the setup guide mentions. Is there a solution for this?

Also my CV-5000 fans are so loud that the SPL meter keeps reading over a 100db when its on. How am I supposed to run the auto calibration if the fans are heard above the test tones?

@ SoundProgenitor

By XMC-1 microphone, you mean microphone from Emotiva?
If so, maybe Emotiva would be best to answer your question? :-) miniDSP is selling the UMIK-1 only.

Ok so I bought the UMIK-1 and the Galaxy CM-140 SPL meter. I connected the output of the SPL meter to the headphone output of my laptop. The UMIK is also plugged in via USB. I have the HDMI plugged into my Preamp. What settings should I set the SPL meter do on the device itself? Or do I just load the calibration file for the CM-140 from REW wizard and go with that?

@ SoundProgenitor

mmmh, not 100% sure to know why you need both SPL meter and UMIK-1 and REW.. :-)
How about just going along with the step by step app note here? www.minidsp.com/applications/acoustic-me...mik-1-setup-with-rew

Most other forums the gurus have said to use a separate SPL meter. I got it working.
