Maybe this has been covered before. but I am getting stuck with the digital signal path.

COAX SPDIF out of interface (Old Digi002).
1m cable 75ohm cable.
Nuetrik 75/110ohm ballon into pwr ice amp.
link out with Canare DA206 110 Ohm AES/EBU Digital Audio Cable 50cm
Into 2nd Pwr ICE amp in.
Link out Neutrik 110/75ohm ballon
1m cable 75ohm.
Coax to SPdif convertor optical.
Into MINIDSP.

I can not get the link out to work from one pwr ice to the 2nd. All input and outputs work and all cables are tested in a pro audio environment. AES cable work betweeen pro audio amps without issues. I can get signal to the mini dsp going coax to aes110ohm back to coax to optical without the pwr ice amps.

The only thing that I can think off is the clock source setting in the interface. Currently set to internal so the old digi002 gives the clock. That should work as it creates the signal ( other clock options are ADAT/WC/SPDIF). Or does one of the devices wants to have clock prefference.
Has anyone had any similar experience.?

I need 1 digital signal path for this project?

cheers

You are saying the first ICE-PWR amp show signal on the meters/outputs but the second one doesn't?

it is showing meters on the output.
All outputs of the amp function normal (towards drivers).

but the amp just doesn't passes the digital signal out.
I go digital in and the digital link out doesn't work . Maybe it works but I am not sure what I am missing in the whole signal chain as discribed as above.

I need to daisy chain the 2 pwr ice amps and the digital out of the second amp goes into mini DSP by AES to optical (toslink).

@ alexearl

- Not sure if you're answering John's good question here:
When you connect to the 2nd amplifier. Can you see RMS meters moving on the "INPUT"? We're not talking of the output here.

- Have a trial at removing some of these adaptors. You shouldn't need them as we already account for SPDIF. Just go RCA to XLR connector into the PWR-ICE. XLR to XLR into the second amp. Simple. :-)

I think that it's potentially because you're using few adaptor and SPDIF.

Thanks Devteam and John for your reply to Alex,

I am working with Alex on this project.

To answer the questions. Yes we are getting input into the first one , but not into the second power amp that is linked digital by xlr from the first.

@devteam you say that there is no need to use an impediance transformer?

So basicly the mistake I made is to send the spdif signal through an 75ohm cable with a barrel to 110ohm. This works on the input on the first amp but I've downgraded the signal strength basicly too far so it is not usable as a valid input for the second amp.

You suggest to go Spdif straight out "standard" rca cable into a "normal" rca to xlr adaptor into the aes input. ( I read now (AES-EBU/SPDIF) this means it will take both unbalanced and balanced AES signals ? ( in this case RCA 75 ohm) so there is no need to do the transform to 110.

I can't wait to test it!

My background is live audio for concerts, thats where it goes wrong first of all :-).
I don't often use the spdif I/O anymore. going AES from pro audio 110 to pro broadcast 75ohm b&c I do with the ballons as mentioned.

Spdif in into a unit to go balanced Aes digital signal out. (TC M3000 FX unit for example has done the job in the past for a specific live situation).

I have read a bit on the rane website. www.rane.com/note149.html
It starts to make sense where my thoughts went to the wrong way. Learned again something!

Thanks and cheers for steering us in the right direction. I'll post if succesfull, no doubt you are right here! ;)

@ Hans

Keep us updated on how things go. We're already doing buffering on the device for SPDIF lower level (raising it later on to the right level).
So you shouldn't have to do that interface change. Your process was right though, it's just that we already accounted for it. :-)

I've tested it today. It works! linking out to second amp without any issues!

Thanks a lot for the support!

cheers Hans
