Hi folks
could someone please advise how the external Master Volume controll is implemented in signal processing ? There is no hint in the manual it seems.

1) I mean, is this some kind of analog potentiometer, that adjusts the incoming signal before it hits the dsp or is the signal routed through the dsp first and the master volume control knob influences the outgoing signal before it hits the icepwr modul or does it change the gain of the power modul?
Or is the volume knob somehow working in the digital domain within the DSP?

Is it correct to assume that the external master control influence could (negatively) influence the impedance and influence the relation between input / output sensitvity of source and dsp/plate amp?

2) Where is the technical difference between adjusting the volume using the hardware potentiometer on the plate and adjusting the signal using the software master/volume faders in the DSP software?
Which option is preferrable?

3) If you use the option to route the income signal via AES-EBU to another plate amp, will the adjusted signal be routed or the unadjusted signal?Related Question:

4) Related next question:
The jumpers for input and output level of the signal on the board, do they work in the analog domain (probably yes) and are both applied before the incoming signal is routed to the dsp board or afterwards? And would some DEV maybe shed some light on the question, why you rather use out-put level jumper than reducing the signal level using the software volume fader in the dsp-software? I mean there is certainly some thinking behind providing both options.

And yes the question is related to getting the gain-structure right and avoiding unnecessary deterioration of the signal and and its processing .

Best regards and thanks in advance

Hi there,
maybe some Dev could be so nice to shed some light on the topic?

Hi, I'm not devteam but the answers as I understand them are:

1. The pot is just an analog control, and A/D convertor detects the position and the DSP code adjusts the volume just prior to output to the DAC chip. (That is assuming that the pot is enabled in the plugin.)

2. There is no technical difference. The pot is useful in applications like subs, but not so much when you have e.g. stereo speaker.

3. The digital link out is a copy of the digital input, no DSP processing or volume etc is applied.

4. The jumpers are analog. I beleive the 16dB attenuator is intended for those cases where the tweeter is much more sensitive than the woofer.

Hope that helps :)

John's answer is right on! A mark.. :-) Remember to give a thank You.. :-)
I think that he covered everything.

Thank you very much John for explaining and Devs for confirming, (and thank you engineer for applying volume control at the end of the dsp processing in the digital domain and not (further tune down) the signal before it hits the A/D converter :) ).
