Hi all,

I just bought a PWR-ICE250 for a subwoofer design using a JL 10w6 . I have some questions regarding the input for the plate amp and I need advise about that. I want to connect the plate amp to my integrate amplifier. I have a ifi retro as amplifier and I try to find a way to connect the mini dsp (plate amp) to the output signal of my amp. I mainly use my computer to listen to music, but it will be funnier if the sub would work with LP or TV.

I though about a solution of using the output signal (high-level) of the amp and transform it in rca (low level) to plug it in the plate amp. Did someone have experience doing this ? I saw that kind of stuff , any comments?

There are indeed such adaptors available (essential padding circuits) but be warned that connecting an an amplified outputs will affect audio quality since the THD out from an amp is always going to be quite high.. Not exactly the best way to get audio to another device.. More so a work around.

Hi ,

Thanks for your answer,

I still don't know what to think about that high-level input philosophy. Many subwoofer compagnies preconize this approach. I understand your point and I understand why some developer is using high-level input as reference. But it's not the point here to see which approach is the best. I'm obliged with this, because after asking the amplifier compagnie, they answer that the only way to plug a subwoofer in their amp is to use high-level approach. This is how they devlop the amp. Even if you think this is not the best approach would you share some experience if you have done some tests?

thank you

@ magig160

We've got not much to share here apart from the advise we already provided since we've never used any of the adaptors you're providing/suggesting I'm afraid.. :-( I guess you can have a trial at one on one of your amplifier? (i.e. before you purchase the PWR-ICE) Just a thought.
