Hi everybody,

I'd like to buy ice125 for my loudspeaker but I've some concern about the configuration to use.
At the moment I've a passive x-over for 3 way setted 300Hz 12db low and high pass then 2.8Khz high pass.
My idea is to use the two ampli channels and set the x-over around 300hz low in one channel and high in another leaving the passive x-over 2,8khz for tweeter.
What's your opinion?
Is 300Hz giving any problem for DSP algo?
Is the output powerof one channel enough for my 8' woofer?

Thanks for your feedback.

Hi Fabri, I don't see any issue with what you propose. 300 Hz is fine for the DSP. With regard to power, I think 125W is enough for typical 8-inch drivers, although it does depend a lot on the driver and how you are using it.

OK very goood.

The idea is to create an active loudspeaker with my trasmission line 3 way speakers.
The woofer is not 8' but 10' from Focal, then I've scan speak as midrange and Esotar as tweeter.
It's a quite hold project but I love it!
I drive the loudspeaker with an hybrid ampli 0 feedback tube and mosfet as final stage, for me now the challenge is if the icepower is able to create the same quality and soundstage of my system. I'm quite convinced that working with DSP and crossover frequency I can obtain some good result, That's why I've asked you some suggestion.
Another possibility is to use ice 125 bridged only for the woofer and the hybrid ampli for the mid and tweeter but I think that the sound would be with some incongruency. What's your opinion?

Thank in advance for you reply.

Hi Fabri, if you use the ICE-PWR125 in BTL mode, you will need some other way to highpass the mid-tweeter. In that case, you might as well go to a separate crossover and amps, e.g. OpenDRC-DA8 (if you have only single digital source). Then you can also go 3-way active in future.

Hi John,

I think I will go for the ICE-PWR125 in normal mode and I will use two channel separately.
One will be connected directly to the woofer FOCAL 10'' that has an impedance curve like pneumatic box.
The other channel will be connected to the mdi-hight x-over that has the full configuration, mid-hight pass 300hz, mid-low pass 2,8khz, and twweter high-pass 2,8khz, all of them with 12db/oct.
A second step would be the elimination od the mid-high condenser and inductor in order to have a direct filter on the ICE125.

What do you think as filtering and phase of the speakers in those configuration?

Hi Fabri, I'd be inclined to just start that way (I thought from your first post you would).

I'm not sure what you mean by phase (?) The PWR-ICE uses IIR filters, phase shift in the crossover is inevitable (unless you put an OpenDRC-DI or DDRC-22D "in front of" the PWR-ICEs.

Hi John,

yes I know the phase shift on the analog is not possible to be eliminated but it is part of the original project and it's ok!
My issue was if leaving only thi mid-low pass and tweeter high-pass or keeping the whole x-over for that part.
Anyway I know that is also a kind of on field practical measurement.
I just try to enter the DSP world step by step :-|
