Is it correct that this works?
Do I only need a Digi-FP and a Vol-FP and parts for the housing?

The OpenDRC-AN model was an analogue in / analogue out version which is now sadly discontinued.  If that's what you're looking for?
The back panel looks like this...


If you already own the digital only model OpenDRC-DI instead, then it would be possible to convert that into an OpenDRC-AN just by removing the existing DIGI-FP rear I/O connector board and installing the analogue only AN-FP board (which has the 4 balanced XLR connectors pictured above) if you can find one of those.  Unfortunately MIniDSP has discontinued the AN-FP too, but but you might find one for sale on ebay or something.

FYI there also exists a DA-FP board with digital inputs and analogue outputs, which MIniDSP have also sadly discontinued I believe.
Besides the superior OpenDRC series, the Dirac series were also built using some of these I/O board variants.

But there is a misunderstanding: I made a mistake with the second type: there is no OpenDRC-IN - I wanted to write OpenDRC-DI:

Yes, the beauty of the OpenDRC platform is the input / output boards are easily swappable (5 minute job with screwdriver, no soldering) and you can effectively convert your OpenDRC-AN machine into an OpenDRC-DI model, or vice versa, anytime you wish.
The 3 different possible output boards (all interchangeable) that exist are pictured below...
Problem is sadly MiniDSP have discontinued the two variants with analogue connection, so trying to get hold of these nowadays might be a challenge.

AN-FP  analogue in / analogue out  (DISCONTINUED!)
 

DA-FP  digital in / analogue out  (DISCONTINUED!)
 

DIGI-FP  digital in / digital out (CURRENT DEFAULT)

I messaged MiniDsp about this and they said the Digi-FP will work, but that you also need the vol-FP in order to be able to select the digital input source since the analog encoder has no source selection. 

I hope this will work without the vol-fp but with the adjustment in the menue/software. Isn't it?
 

I'm not sure, just relaying what MiniDsp told me when I emailed them about it. The vol-FP is only $20 so not too bad. 

... but additional a fee of 35 to germany :o(
I've ordered a Digi-FP from a private seller in germany and so the fee is only for the Vol-FP when it is needed.

it works!
It works by only changing to the Digi-FP. There is no need to built in the Vol-FP!
The downside is only that you cannot switch the inputs with the knob. But with the software/menue!

Andreas, I have the Digi-FP board, but am not clear how it is getting power? My original AN board had the main power coming to it first and then that fed the main board, but those connections do not exist on the Digi-FP board? Does it not need power, and if so do I just take the power input directly to the main board? Hopefully my question makes sense. I was hesitant about the Vol-FP when MiniDSP said it was required, not that you say it works without it I'm not going to mess with trying to install it, especially since there are no cutouts for the extra 4 leds on the front panel anyway...

Hi Squiers007,

the same questions I had at first when it arrived.
And so I tried it without internal power and put the power directly to the main board - it works!
The only difficult thing is making a rear cover for additional fixing and stabilizing the plug sockets. But I think this is only neccesary if the plugs will often be changed.
