I’m encountering issues with edid negociation when the hdmi signal go through the nano avr hda.

The setup is the following :
* 2 sources, each connected to the nano avr hda, with hdmi cables about 1.5m length
* a blu-ray player
* a home theater pc, running linux (debian), with an AMD radeon graphics card
* the nano avr hda
* a Toshiba TV, connected to the nano avr output with a 1,5m length cable

The issue is the following :
* very often (but strangely, not always), the htpc has a lot of trouble handling both sound and resolution on its output. In that case, get-edid fails. It gets worse with the latest driver update (open source driver)
* the blu-ray player is ok with the same setup (tried to switch cables and entries, no changes)

I suspected the (cheap) cables, so i replaced them with brand (phillips) ones, it didn't change anything. I tried using a laptop instead of the HTPC, and my laptop returned an edid error :
i915 0000:00:02.0: HDMI-A-1: EDID is invalid:

For some reason, it worked with the same laptop under windows, so i guess the windows driver is more fault tolerant regarding edid issues (same as the bluray player).

I checked that everything is normal when connected directly to the TV (ie, the TV is sending a valid edid signal).

Is there anything that can be done to fix this issues ?

All I can say is that in my experience the nanoAVRs reflect the EDID presented by the device on output to their inputs (well, I have only ever connected to input 1, but I presume input 2 would be identical). It has to since it does not scale.

Yes, that’s what i see when it works. The problem is that most of the time, the edid is corrupted (which cause issues on some devices, but not on all).

I'd normally say check your cables: EDID is carried over DDC which is just a longish I2C bus, which was never designed to be long (400 pF max capacitance, increased to 700 pF for DDC), but they are short. Nevertheless, if you can swap cables, try. I've had apparently good cables be "less than good".

Already triple checked the cables, swapped nearly everything that could be swapped. Direct connection between the TV and any source that has issues with the minidsp works fine, with exactly the same cable, in the same environment.

I was wondering if the extra length of using two cables (although i use 1.5m cables, so the total length is 3m, no so much) could be an issue, but my understanding is that the minidsp sends the edid all the time, whether the source is active or not : this means that the edid is read by the minidsp unit and then sent back to each source, so the signal level should be nominal again.

I was considering buying something like this : www.castorama.fr/adaptateur-hdmi-femelle...00101279042_CAFR.prd to definitely test if the cables are to blame, but since the problem occurs with a lot of different cables, i doubt it.

This is an old thread; not sure anyone will see my contribution; but just in case . . .
My connection issues were with a nanoAVR-DL (I'm assuming there are some basic commonalities between the 2 products).
A couple months ago I spent many hours trying to get my laptop to connect so I could do a fresh Dirac Live calibration. [It had previously connected numerous times after I'd bought the nano in 2016.] Now it wouldn't recognize the nano as an HDMI audio device.
Since the last successful connection I'd upgraded from Windows 8.1 to 10. Suspecting the upgrade had somehow made such a connection impossible, I borrowed a laptop still running 8.1 . The results were no different (no possible connection).
That's when I remembered what I'd read in this thread about a corrupted EDID. Not having the knowledge or software tools of the thread originator, I had to search for a solution.
I ended up buying the HDfury 'Dr.HDMI'. After setting it to provide an EDID supporting 'full audio', I connected it between my laptop and the nano. Voila --a successful 7.1 audio connection!!
That enabled me to do a Dirac Live calibration. I was very pleased with the results. But there was still a glitch . .
My Sony UBPX800M2 disk /media player was playing multi-channel audio (through the nano to my AVR) as stereo only. Again I had to suspect a bad EDID in the nano.
After connecting the 'Dr.HDMI' between the player and the nano I am getting proper multi-channel audio!  [Now it seems the 'Dr.HDMI' must become a permanent component in my system.]
Many thanks for posting about the corrupted EDID.
