I’m planning on a new system from the ground up with an Apple TV 4K (no analog audio out) and a Blueray player (SPDIF audio out) , but NOT with a surround speaker setup.

The idea is for a high end stereo 4-way system with individual amped tweeters, mids, woofers and subs. 4 stereo amps total. I could do this with a miniDSP 4x10, an HDMI audio extractor for the Apple TV , and HDMI switch 2in1out.

The nanoAVR-HDA seems promising as I can use its pair of HDMI in for the switch and the analog outs to decouple the audio to the amps from the HDMI. I’d set the Apple TV to stereo out along with the blueray the same.
Now the REALLY big question. Can use the 8 analog outs on the nanoAVR-HDA with the plungin to assign each of the outputs on the nano for each drivers with their appropriate crossover frequencies like you can on the 4-way advanced pluggin for the 4x10 minidsp. Long winded intro but it’s really pretty simple if it’ll work. No need for a separate hdmi audio splitter and a HDMI switch.

@ lljlehr

Sounds like a fun project!
Indeed you can use the nanoAVR HDA to build that exact same configuration. You have all the processing /matrixing you need to build a 4way speaker inside.. :-)

Hi,

I pretty much have the same idea with a slight difference, so I wonder if that might work too...

I have a surround setup where center and rears are full range chassis. The fronts are 2 way. And of course a sub. So my surround setup has 8 ways for 6 channel surround. I can drive every channel active using the HDA. The stereo setup is a bit easier bcs. I have a bit more complex input routing. To handle stereo mode and surround mode without changing configuration i have to mix lfe and the front channel to have bass on lfe.

Will that work too?

Hi Kalexm

The problem here would be to have multiple nanoAVR HDA... It "could" be an issue.
There are some HDMI splitters that split the HDMI feed to multiple units. That could be what you need here to setup your multiway setup.

Interesting setup! Can't promise it would work as HDMI is quite finicky when you get multiple units though but looks neat. :-)
