I was watching a movie last night and was watching the output tab. The LCR channels were routinely going over into the positive value. Does this indicate clipping? I have a 3db boost on all channels at 60hz (peak Q 0.7). I was sometime seeing values of +5 or +6.

Even removing the boost and having not EQ at all still resulted in positive values up to +4. I am doing no LFE routing in this case., just passing the signal to my pre pro that is handling crossovers and LFE routing. This isn't something I have seen with other discs, just this one in particular.

Thanks
Ray Nist

I would have thought that with +6 on the meter you would have heard clipping...

I think I did hear it in parts.

I guess some soundtracks are recorded too high?

I lowers the output level of all channels for this disk to -6, which prevented any channels from exceeding 0. I turned the volume up +6 more on my AVR to compensate.

Was this the correct thing to do?

@ Ray,

Can you maybe share your XML file that you've got loaded inside your nanoAVR?
If you've changed the way bass management is done inside (i.e need to have attenuation before the mix), that could be the reason here for the clip.. Just a thought.

The movie was House of Flying Daggers and the scene was the one where they are flicking beans at the drums and the girl hits the drums with her scarfs.

OK, thanks for the config. Did you noticed that you completely turned off your bass management on this config?
Here is an explanation on how/why we need bass management in a speaker setup: www.minidsp.com/applications/home-theate...ning/bass-management.

Hi,

In this scenario my Onkyo SC 5509 pre pro is doing all of the bass management and crossover settings. The NanoAVR is just giving an EQ boost.

I have other configs where I have the nano doing bass management.
