Hi. I wonder if it is possible to use stereo channel of audio (or 4 channel for surround) and 4 subwoofers as recommended by dr Floyd or dr Geddes to even response of the room. Originally I was going to use minidsp 2x4 with 4-way plugin to deal with 4 subwoofers but this new unit ( nanoavr HDA) looks like something I was waiting for ie stereo dac plus bass management. I am not sure though ig it works with multisubs.

Does anyone know the answer?

Tomek

Its the same plugin as HD so I believe you will be able to mix 2 (or 4) input channels to the lfe channel, and send that to 4 output channels. The evil,is in the details though... One caveat: there is no global eq so to EQ final sub result you will need to apply filter on all 4 sub outputs.

That is actually an advantage because you can optimize each sub with it's optimum eq filter response because the eq is applied after the channel routing configuration.

ok. As I understand it is possible to use nanoavr HD for multisubs. Thats good. But it uses IIR filters so it is not good for improving the frequency response of the speakers.

My another idea is to use either nanoavr HD or HDA first to deal with multisubs and then send the signal via HDMI out to nanoavr DLA. First unit will be responsible for bass managment and other for general room and speaker correction.

HTPC + PS3 -> nanoavr HD -> nanoavr DLA -> 6 channel amp -> stereo speakers + 4 subs

What do you you think?

That would work, but a potential issue is that running Dirac on subs independently means that each sub will be EQed, but not the (complex) sum of them.

There's also this app note (which is for the DDRC-88A but the principles should translate): www.minidsp.com/applications/home-theate...on-with-the-ddrc-88a

Yes. I am aware of the 88A unit but dont like a double digital-analog conversion. In this situation nanoAVR HD-> future nanoavr DLA seems much better. What I am afraid of is that there will be quite a big latency with both units engaged. I am glad minidsp has added DA support to nanovar family but I wish Dirac finally solved the problem with bass managment and usage of multisubs. This is future whether they like it or not.

You misunderstood my post. I was not suggesting that you use the DDRC-88A, just that the app note may be of interest (as it also is about Dirac).

Anyway, good luck.

Yes. The app note was interesting. After reading I think there would be a second life for minidsp 2x4 to be connected to LFE of nanoavr DLA.

Can't you daisy chain a nanoavr hda and a miniDSP 2x4? The nanoavr hda handles eq for the 7 small channels and outputs 1 bass/lfe channel to the the 2x4 for independent eq on the 4 subs.

a 7.4 system with no other processor (assuming the player outputs PCM and you don't use Atmos, etc)

Yes, although depending on output voltage and required output delay you may prefer 2x4 Balanced or 2x4 HD.
