1) It completely reset all my settings when I installed the new version of the Windows plugin on one of my PC's
2) I can no longer use ethernet to connect (I have 2 PC's, one is my Windows desktop I would use ethernet to check it and the other is my Windows HTPC with the USB connection that I updated the firmware with)
3) I can no longer use the Android app, it says the nanoAVR is in use when neither PC is connected with the Windows plugin.
4) I no longer get video pass through UNLESS I remote into my HTPC and connect to the Windows plug in then I get video until I close off the Windows plugin and then disconnect the remote desktop program the video goes away until I connect to the Windows Plugin again. Since I use the nanoAVR 100% of the time with HTPC it makes the nanoAVR completely useless because I can't have that connected all the time due to rebooting on the HTPC. I can't remote in and reconnect the Windows plug in on every reboot, that completely kills the convenience of such a device.

EDIT: It looks like the unit doesn't like USB & Ethernet plugged in at the same time... unplugging USB fixed my issues. I'll just leave this here in case someone else plugs in both the USB & Ethernet and has problems.

Yeah, that bit seems unavoidable whenever a new feature is added to the UI. Hopefully they will remember to mention it next time.

Glad you got it sorted. I guess I never tried that, but it's good to know what happens if.

Any thoughts on the new output mode feature?

Any thoughts on the new output mode feature?

I haven't had a chance to test it a whole lot yet but so far I like it. I have an HTPC with JRiver as the front end and changing from Bitstreaming to internal decoding of surround sound codecs is sometimes glitchy as it'll occasionally downmix a 7.1 blu-ray to stereo and isn't always immediately noticeable so at least this way I can easily double check to see if it's outputing stereo, 5.1 or 7.1 with my receiver. :D I haven't checked to see if my receiver will apply the matrixing surround sound like Dolby PLIIx or THX surround modes to the LPCM stream yet (I don't see why not) for expanding stereo or 5.1 sources.

@Tch0rT

miniDSP warns that I should erase/uninstall the current version of the firmware before installing the latest version, but they do not explain how to do this. Do I use the PIC32UBL.exe application to erase, or does installation of the newest version automatically erase the older version for me? Did you erase the older firmware version before installing the newest version (version 1.5)?

The Please_Uninstall_Old_Version_First_(For_user_with_version1.4_or_lower_only)_Readme.txt refers to uninstalling the Plug In on your computer. You will need to uninstall the old version of the Plug In on your computer and then install the new version.

There should be a pdf in the Firmware directory called nanoAVR_firmware_update_procedure.pdf that explains exactly what to do to upgrade the firmware.

To upgrade the firmware:
1. Unplug the DC power
2. Connect the unit to PC using USB cable.
3. Press and hold the front panel button on the nanoAVR while pluging the power
cord to the unit.
4. Release the front panel button, make sure only Preset 1 LED is blinking, other
LEDs are go off.
5. Open the PIC32UBL.exe on the PC.
6. Check the "Enable" checkbox under the USB tab (under Communication
Settings tab) to select using the USB to download the firmware.
7. Click the "Connect" Button.
The output screen should display the following indicating connection is successful:
Device connected
Bootloader Firmware Version: x.x
8. Click the "Load Hex File" Button.
9. Browse to the lastest firmware (.hex file) and select it.
The output screen should display the following indicating firmware file is loaded:
Hex file loaded successfully
10.Click the "Erase-Program-Verify" Button to confirm flashing of the unit. DO
NOT DISCONNECT THE UNIT DURING THIS PROCESS.
The output screen should display the following indicating firmware file is
downloaded to the unit:
Flash Erased
Programming completed
Verification successfull
11.Click the "Run Application" Button, the unit will start up in normal mode.
12.Click the "Disconnect" Button to disconnect the USB connection to the device.
13.Close the Bootloader Application.

@ Tch0rT,

Glad to hear that you've figured it out. Just a quick note for those of your wondering the priority process between USB and Ethernet.
You can indeed plug both Ethernet and USB, it will work fine, BUT it will "force" the connection over USB instead of Ethernet.

In other words, if you're doing control of the unit over wifi/network, you will "lock" the Ethernet connection. I'm guessing that with your 2 PC setup (i.e. one for configuration, one for USB update), that's what happened here. (i.e. Ethernet connection was locked up).

We'll update the user manual to include that info. Sorry we've missed it. :-)
