Hello, Team miniDSP. The November 2014 Stereophile has Tony Rouget's comment that there is a simple firmware upgrade for the nanoAVR to use the Dirac Live Room Correction. I am an owner of the original nanoAVR. I don't see on your website where or how to do this upgrade.

And how does bass management work with a DL-enhanced nanoAVR? I know you upgraded the nanoAVR software to enable bass management. If not, what is the best way to accomplish this? Thanks. JCR

Hello JCR,

It's indeed planned that we add that feature in our webstore (i.e. update of a normal nanoAVR HD to a nanoAVR DL). We just need to finalize some software tools for licensing which are required to install the license. It will soon become documented and explained. Note that it's not a free upgrade though.

As for the bass management, it will run from your AVR instead of the nanoAVR as there is unfortunately no space on the IC to perform bass management AND Dirac Live 7.1. While we could have updated the IC to a 2 times faster to allow advanced bass management + Dirac, on this product we took the system approach (i.e. tuning 7.1 signals as content). Based tests we've done (i.e. moving a nanoAVR with BM upstream or downstream), it was easier to run the bass management downstream to get better results (especially for novice end users) knowing that Dirac being upstream of the Bass management, it can solve poor crossover matching issues systems may have.

Maybe in the future, we can consider a hardware upgrade to allow that dual use... A good idea for a new product I guess.

Surely, we'll make sure to warn the community. We don't have a timeline (and rarely give one to make sure we don't miss them and have the wrath of end users.. , but we're hoping to do it asap... End of this month?

Is it possible to add a seconds nanoAVR in series for handling the bass management? If so what would be best order in the chain DL before BM or vice versa?
