Exciting announcement! The miniDSP Android App is now available for download under the Android app at the following link:
play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.minidsp.minidsp
Note that you may have to update your nanoAVR control firmware to control the unit. See below information.

miniDSP Remote App allows remote control functionality of your miniDSP processor over Wifi. It allows basic remote control functions such as:
• Self discovery of nanoAVR products on the networks (can control all units part of the subnet)
• Selects input source (HDMI 1/2)
• Master volume control
• Master mute
• Recall of preset (1-4)
• Dirac Live Bypass (nanoAVR DL only)

Compatible miniDSP models
• nanoAVR DL/HD - This application requires at least firmware v1.12 currently available under your UserDownloads section of minidsp.com

Is there a guide for setting up the app on a home network?

Typically no need for much of a guide ...
- Plug your miniDSP device (nanoAVR/PWR-ICE) to your router via the ethernet port.
- THe app will automatically discover your device and you can control the preset/volume/source

Is there somewhere a description of the protocol used by the app ?

It would be really nice for automation purpose (mostly, source and channel configuration selection).
