Howdy Folks,

This is probably a dumb question, not to mention a bit ill-timed considering all the excitement around the new nanoAVR DL version. But here goes:

The architecture of nanoAVR HD includes 10 bands of PEQ per output. Unlike other models, it has no input EQ; that is, before the crossover sections. This isn't really an issue when the unit is used in its normal configuration, i.e. multichannel passive sats + sub. But for those of us (me?) attempting to use nano HD in various full-active setups, this seems at first a bit limiting.

As we've discussed elsewhere, in an active setup the output (post-xover) PEQ is positioned correctly for individual driver corrections, but not overall house-curve type stuff. This sort of broader adjustment tends to span over one or more crossover points, so any attempt to apply it to a single driver is (among other problems) just going to mess up the phase response in the crossover region, requiring another round of measurements/ adjustments/ swearing/ etc. to compensate.

But what if we just duplicate all global or house-curve type filters on each output for a given speaker enclosure/ location? This would realign the phase response, right? I understand it would also use up a lot more PEQ filters, but in my case at least it would still be doable, since I'm only using 3 or 4 filters per output at this time for driver correction.

Would this work, or am I missing something here?

Hi Jim, putting the exact same filter on (say) three output channels will be identical in effect to having it in the (non-existent in nanoAVR HD) input EQ block.

Yes! House curves on the nanoHD are a good thing! I can't believe I didn't think of this sooner - I can be pretty thick sometimes. I previously had a -1.5 dB shelf on the tweets, setting the freq up at 8 KHz to keep it away from the 2 KHz crossover; but the upper midrange/ lower treble was still a bit strident. Now I've moved it down an octave to 4K, and put the same filter on the mid outputs (didn't bother with the subs, heh) - problem solved. Now Ormandy and the Philly has just the right amount of rosin on the bows, and Kate Bush's "Sensual World" has exactly enough Aphex effect on her sexy voice. Whew! She's making me blush... :o)
