Looking down the road, will nanoAVR be optimized to handle the new Atmos systems coming out now? I would imagine that a completely new product would be required rather than some kind of work around to make 2 units work in concert? Along the same lines, can the Dirac units EQ a room that is Atmos equipped? For those of us planning to upgrade to an Atmos system in the near future it would be helpful to know what options minidsp has on the drawing board or pipeline.
Thanks!

I too, hope they have in works a MiniDSP with full HDMI 2.0 with both Atmos and Auro 3D support.

The nanoAVR is a great device, but will quickly become out dated if it maxes out with LPCM.

A note to the developers:

Support at least 16 Channels if not the full 32 Channels that the HDMI 2.0 and Atmos Spec allows.
For a fully functional device that supports 32 channels and Atmos and Auro 3D with 4K @ 60htz (4:4:4 video), you could charge upwards of $1000 and I think people would still buy it.

Dear Both,

Thanks for the suggestion but unfortunately, we don't talk of future products @ miniDSP until they are actually ready for release.
Note that Atmos is actually a bitstream content i.e.could perfectly run on the HDMI board of the nanoAVR, providing some decoding is done in the Sharc DSP of the bitstream with a dolby license + another add on board to do the D/A conversion. In other, it doesn't require any specific chipset. The HDMI 2.0 spec is actually supported by very few chipsets, yet you actually see legacy AVR supporting Atmos. The reason? bitstream encoding of multiple channels. :-)

I understand you can't talk about the products before hand in detail.

But please still be open to products that's your customer would like to see.

I don't know of any legacy product that supports atmos in the receiver world...

I know atmos will work via the Blu-Ray players.

But unless the legacy receiver product supports more then 7.1 channels, it's kinda pointless...

@ SOWK,

Surely, we're certainly open to products that customer would like to see. That has been the case since the beginning on this company if you see our records. I don't believe our post meant that we weren't but if It did. Sorry it wasn't clear. :-)

Our answer was simply to the general question "Are you going to issue an Atmos product?". The answer is we can't say because we can't talk of future product, that's all.. :-)

Thanks for the update.

I'm not sure if it is company policy to not talk about future products, or the implications of such, but I think it may be beneficial to discuss features and specs that highly technical users, such as myself, may want from a future products of yours.

Not sure if you can take this information back to the engineers, but what I would be looking for is a product that offers:

HDMI 2.(x) in and out
32+ channels out
Support for DTS's Auro 3D & Dolby Atmos
Ability to turn off all LED's
Toroidal Power Supply
IEC Power Connector
Wireless N / AC
Internal operating sample rate 192 kHz
Output sample rate 192 kHz
Dirac Live @ 192kHz support

*Size it approximately the same size as a blu-ray player (1U rack size)

I know this requires a lot more processing power, but I would think users would pay upwards of $1000.00 for a hardware device like this. (separate from the software cost.)

And don't tell me you wouldn't want one in your system too. :)

You can call the above hardware the PRO version.

And make a more affordable customer non pro model:

HDMI 2.(x) in and out
16+ channels out
Support for DTS's Auro 3D & Dolby Atmos
Ability to turn off all LED's
standard Power Supply
Internal operating sample rate 48 kHz
Output sample rate 48 kHz
Dirac Live @ 48 support

Price point about $500 (before software)
