Is that price correct? $250 for the full 7.1 Dirac license?

Also, I am going to Dolby Atmos in the near future, probably with the Denon 5200. Will the nanoAVR DL have any affect on that? Can I just pass this thru to the Denon and everything work correctly?

Hm, I think it unlikely the nanoAVR DL would work with Atmos, as that would be an encoded format with ? channels. nanoAVR DL is 8 in, 8 out, linear PCM (uncompressed, not bitstream)

Got some questions related to HDMI switching. Would there be any problem interfacing with an external switch?

HDMI setup is something like this: multi HDMI sources ---> HDMI switch ---> nanoAVR-DL ---> AVR

How much delay does the NanoAVR-DL impose on the audio when Dirac REQ is engaged? Is there an lip sync delay that can be implemented with the video signal so that both video/audio are together when it leaves the NanoAVR-DL?

Since it requires PCM on the audio for the Dirac REQ to work, I assume all HDMI sources need to be set like this?

What happens if one engages the room correction on the downstream AVR? Can there be multiple user settings such that one can select say room 1, room 2, etc.?

How is the bass managed by Dirac? Or is this passed to the downstream AVR?

How are the levels (dB) and distances (ft.) for each channel handled? Is it passed downstream to the AVR to be managed? Does setting different levels and distances in the AVR affect Dirac?

- Yes, the pricing is indeed right.. :-) 299 for trial, if you want to upgrade you pay another +250USD.
- Dolby Atmos: these are typically more than 8ch audio so I'm afraid that it wouldn't work with Atmos as we need PCM. Atmos will run on an encoded bitstream.

Shouldn't be a problem. We run that config (multiple switches/nanoAVR in a row). No problem providing these devices have a proper HDMI firmware carrying the EDID.. (not the case all the times..:-)

Yes, that's correct.

ANS: sure, there are 4 memories/target curve. Best to let Dirac do the EQ using the custom target curve.

Can you confirm that the NanAVR-DL has adjustable EDID? What type of external 5-port HMDI switch does MiniDSP recommend to use with the NanaAVR-DL? Which external HDMI switches have been tested and passed?

I have an Apple TV known to give issues to other users with HDMI switches between the device and the AVR. Has the NanoAVR-DL been tested with the Apple TV? What was the setup? How does one address EDID issues that come up with this setup?

Does the two HDMI ports of the NanoAVR-DL can be auto-selected based on which port is active? Can it be fixed based on manual selection?

Is there a way to know what the audio input is? I.e. 2-channel, 5-channel, 7-channel?

I'm not sure that the Apple TV supports linear PCM. I couldn't see any way to do it with mine anyway (previous generation).

I'll check for this as Apple TV is currently connected to the Marantz NR-1604 AVR and report back. Will advise the model number of the Apple TV as well.

Also wanted to ask about Chromecast device. Has there been any tests to verify that Chromecast works okay with the NanoAVR-DL?

Reading through the preliminary manual.

I have an existing UMIK-1 microphone with 90 deg, 45 deg and 0 deg calibration files done by Cross Spectrum Labs. I also have the particular calibration file that is matched with the serial number of the UMIK-1 mic from MiniDSP. Which of these files are useful when carrying out the Dirac measurements? Thought the mic needed to be pointed straight up to the ceiling which means the 90 deg file is needed.

Hi again, I'd suppose though that the nanoAVR DL will work with the same devices as the regular nanoAVR (HD). I gather the issue with less expensive streaming devices is that they don't have a license to decode Dolby Digital so just pass it straight through. I'm really not up on the ins and outs of this minefield though...! Let us know what you find out about ChromeCast. If I had a better network connection I'd love to get some of these gizmos (but I don't :( oh well )

I'd use the 90 degree cal file.

With regard to the HDMI input selection, on the nanoAVR HD it's manual only so I'd assume the DL is the same. You can use the button on front or a remote control. I think the nanoAVR always assumes that the input is 8-channel (it always outputs on 8 channels).

Hope that helps. Perhaps devteam will be along to answer your other questions. I expect they're pretty busy getting ready for CEDIA next week.

Apple TV model number is MD199HK/A.

Under the audio/video selection, there is Dolby Digital tab. 3 options are available: Auto/ON/OFF.
There is also audio output tab that has 2 options: Auto/16 bit

Currently set to auto for both.

Reading through the preliminary manual. Got a question on page 23 where it says the height measurements have to vary by at least 30cm (1') vertically? Does that mean each successive point must have at least 30cm vertical separation? This is a bit different to Audyssey where close mic of the positions has a better response. Clarification is required for this.

Dirac tend to recommend against making the measurement area too small. The diagram on the previous page shows the way the software displays the mic locations, I believe that would be their recommendation unless the physical space prevents it. My understanding is that the main thing is that the measurements are distributed well in 3D space.

I am not a specialist, so could you explain a bit more.
Does this mean that crossover is done in AVR, and the nanoAVR DL can make a housecurve for the bass/subwoofer?
or
The nanoAVR DL cannot affect the bass/subwoofer and something additional has to be used like miniDSP 2x4?

and another question:
I already have a miniDSP 2x4 in the subwoofer output. If I would purchase a nanoAVR DL, would you recommend nanoAVR DL in combination with miniDSP 2x4 or just nanoAVR DL alone?

Reading through the preliminary NanoAVR-DL owner's manual says that bass management is handled by the downstream AVR. I.e. the crossover point from satellites to sub is done by the AVR.

What Dirac does is applies room equalization for each channel. This includes the sub channel, i.e. the .1

The house curve can be individual channels or linked together to form a common.

I've also got a MiniDSP 2x4 and it's only connected to the sub channel (the LFE out of the AVR or .1 channel). Think I'll leave it in the audio chain since there is an audio delay associated with the MiniDSP 2x4 and this needs to be taken into account when Dirac is carrying out the frequency sweep.

Can you please confirm if you are attempting to provide an current (firmware / software) upgrade path for current nanoAVR customers?

Have there been hardware changes in the DL units?
