Hello, crew. Having problems setting up my new nanoavr 8X8. Here is the configuration:

UMIK-1 mic plugged into USB on Microsoft Surface Pro 2. HDMI out from Surface Pro 2 to nanoavr Input 1. HDMI out of nanoavr to Marantz AV-7005 pre/pro. Latest version of asio4allv2 installed on Surface Pro 2. Latest beta with UMIK support of REW v5 also installed.

As you can see on the attached screenshot, REW preferences shows ASIO as the driver at sample rate of 96kHz. Minidsp at 96k selected on Equalizer tab. Under ASIO Control Panel, HD Audio and UMIK are selected. You can see the UMIK showing up under Input 1on the REW preferences page. The software correctly asks for the calibration file for the UMIK and that seems to load up fine.

The real issues are:

1. As you can see on the screenshot, the REW output only contains 2 output channels, not 8. No amount of rebooting REW, the nanoavr, the PC or the Marantz pre/pro seems to change this.

2. When selecting the Generator for Pink Noise at -12db for speaker cal, the meters show that ASIO is driving an output -- but no sound comes out of the Marantz.

Additional points:

1. The PC has JRiver v19 software, with its own internal ASIO driver.
2. The PC also has the Light Harmonic ASIO driver for my portable Geek Out USB DAC.
3. In JRiver, we can play music outputting HDMI through the Marantz HD audio driver in the DSP selections. So, we know that audio properly can output from the PC over HDMI to the pre/pro. However, if asio4allv2 is selected as the driver in JRiver, the JRiver software shows it is playing, but no sound comes out, just as the issue for REW as noted above.
4. We have uninstalled and reinstalled asio4all and REW to see if there was a corrupt installation. No difference.
5. We restored preferences each time to factory to start over when trying different things. No difference.

So near, yet so far. What are we doing wrong? Thanks much. JCR

Hi, for the UMIK you will need to run at 48k. For multichannel out I think you will need to configure asio4all, see the app note

Hi John. The manual says that the nanoAVR operates INTERNALLY at 96kHz. So, are you saying that I must measure at 48kHz but process the sound real-time at 96kHz using the "down sampled" measurement results?

A related but separate question. I currently process using Audyssey through my Marantz AV-7005. Before we turned to trying to set up the nanoAVR for comparison, we listened for a while for benchmarking to some MCH recordings on SACD disc through my Oppo BDP-93 outputting PCM via HDMI to the Marantz. We then compared that sound to the same recordings ripped to hard drive, using JRiver to downsample the SACD ISOs to 24/176.4, and also outputting to the Marantz via HDMI. We expected the sound to be identical, or the file-based recordings to sound better. Nyet. The file-based sound was flat and liveless. We even tried two separate PC servers and found the same result. I want to get away from disc and use files for MCH with the nanoAVR, but not this way. What would account for the poor sound via file here? Thanks. JCR

OK, I have set the ASIO sampling at 48kHz. Now, I get six (not eight) channels showing up. Even with that, I cannot get any sound coming out. Why only 6 channels and why no sound? See the attached screenshot. JCR

Hi, there is no down sampling. The microphone operates at 48 khz, so that's what you have to set REW to use when doing measurements. The output will also be at 48 kHz, but the nanoAVR will upsample to 96 kHz, and the receiver will convert that to analogue. The frequency band through that whole chain will be limited to 24 khz (unless something is very wrong somewhere) because that is all the source (REW) will generate.

I don't have an answer to your other questions. I guess I would first look into checking the output chain with some other source than REW.

Very hard to double confirm looking at your ASIO configuration but I "believe" that the issue is that you need to click on "Intel Display Audio" so it goes the right way. See attached on our side for our Win7 environment. We had to turn off (blue button) the RealtekHighdef audio and "enable" the IntelDisplayAudio to make it work. See attached.

I disabled the Realtek driver and then was able to select the Intel Display Audio. With ASIO set at 48kHz, I now have the software up, running with 8 channels and measuring. Thanks much. JCR
