To explain, I have an either A or D input digital preamp (meridian 561, which I have been using for years with great happiness ), Now I have decided to use the F8 to digitally Xover and effectively make Active my Tannoy front speakers. (keeping centre analog speaker for TV ).
I have a variety of analog sources connected to the Meridian. The problem is that although the 561 does have a digital o/p which I have routed through spdif to the F8 it appears that the variable digital o/p of the meridian (I am taking it from the meridian's digital front speaker output which normally goes to the input of their Active digital speakers) the F8 appears to treat it as a fixed signal. Thus to adjust the volume of the front speakers I have to adjust the meridian for the centre channel and the F8 for the L and R.
If I could get the F8 to realise it has a variable digital input level then all would be good.
I'm thinking the answer is a no, but thought I'd ask if anyone has a workaround?

The Flex 8 doesn't have a clue whether your digital input signal level is fixed or variable.  Your query doesn't make much sense.
Maybe you could elaborate further???

Sorry to be unclear.
I would like to be able to use the SPDIF I/P with a variable level from my pre-amp, in the same way as how the BT I/P works. Ie you vary the input level and the F8 O/P level varies accordingly.
The F8 seems to expect only a fixed line level input on SPDIF
Thanks

You absolutely can do that with the F8 (and I have) - as Dreite has said, the F8 will handle what you give it.

No, it doesn't expect anything.  You can adjust the input level in your source......or not adjust it and leave it fixed.  It's completely up to you.

Just to add that even for a 'fixed' level the actual signal level will vary as music plays, being lower for quieter sections/recordings and higher for louder material. So in practice everything is 'variable' and so all input signal types will work as others have stated above.
