Dirac scans and other questions 3 weeks 4 days ago #64618

I am doing this on a Windows 11 laptop. I have amp in outputs 1&2, and subwoofers in 3&4.
  1. When Dirac scans my Flex, it does it 3 times. 2 for Dirac 1, and 1 for Dirac 2. Is this correct?
  2. I get a disk access errors after each Dirac scan. Apps are allowed disk access in the Windows Settings, but no specific apps are listed.
  3. I see two distinct impulses in the impulse response. Probably due to subwoofers being behind speakers. How can I merge them?
  4. Is there a way to see the final (filtered) response without using a different measurement app?

  1. Normal.
  2. I've never seen this but use Windows 10 not 11.
  3. Can you post a picture? If it's a similar shape spike to the first arrival then it will be a reflected signal from a main speaker rather than that from a subwoofer. Prior to running Dirac Live you want to be optimising their integration with your main speakers though, which includes setting time delays in the Flex software so that the sub and main speaker signals arrive a the same time.
  4. You can see the predicted impulse response and on the view you set your target curve you see the predicted frequency response but note this is some sort of average across your measurement area rather than at a single point. You should learn to use Room EQ Wizard to optimise your subwoofer integration though.

I still get file saving errors after every scan. Will this prevent Dirac from working? It seems to NOT be working. See attached files.

I suggest you use the Support link at the top of the page to contact official miniDSP support to ask about the saving errors.

If you ignore Dirac Live for a minute, do all your REW scans look as above or just with a Dirac Live filter enabled? It looks to me like you have a microphone issue to resolve that has nothing to do with Dirac... I assume you do have a microphone other than the one in your laptop that you're using? The graphs you plotted look like the sort of thing you might get from a laptop microphone....

No, I use the minidsp Mic.  One pic is with Dirac on, the other with it off.

Have you definitely got the UMIK selected as the microphone in use in REW when you're making measurements?

Yes, Definitely the right Mic. I have the mic in a shock tube at center of head position.
I did file official support requests. And even running MiniDSP as Admin gave same file errors.

Where did you have the microphone positioned when you took the measurements above? How was it held in place?
