I'm looking at buying a Flex 8 with Dirac and would like to use my Behringer EMC8000 measurement mic as it looks to be equal to the Minidsp microphone that is recommended with the Flex8/Dirac package.

The Behringer mic is coupled with an external sound card on my laptop. Would I be able to use this with the Flex8/Dirac?

Cheers

Flex 8 has digital inputs only, no analog. To connect EMC8000 you will need an ADC (after the external sound card).

The inputs on the Flex aren't relevant here. UMIKs don't connect directly to miniDSPs for Dirac, but to a computer.

I think what the OP is asking about should work fine but I've only personally ever used a UMIK-1 so I can't confirm from experience.

Cheers Draki, I don't think the UKMIC plugs into the Flex 8, so wouldn't expect to do the same with my Behringer mic.

Thankyou Ultrasonic,
Do you connect the UKMIC to your PC/Laptop? What software do u use for capture and processing of the Dirac filters?

Not that it's important but the name of miniDSP's microphone is UMIK rather than UKMIC. (I'm from the UK as it happens though, so kind of like your name .)

You use the Dirac Live software to make measurements to generate and apply Dirac Live filters. Room EQ Wizard is what I and most other people would use for other measurements when needed (e.g. for subwoofer integration).

Ecm8000 is a boring mic

try umik2 if you want to be excited and have absolutely stellar Dirac results

you won’t be disappointed

Cheers Ultrasonic,

UMIK it is! Defo go UK on the brain!

Do you know if I can use the Behringer mic with the Dirac live software. I've used the Behringer with REW, ARTA and TrueRTA. It's worked well for me and I really don't need another measurement Mic just for Dirac.

Cheers Andrew for the info.

Will the Behringer not work with Dirac?

The specs of both Mics are similar, so not sure why the EMC8000 is boring. But the results would definitely be underwhelming if it wouldn't work with Dirac.

I've already answered that as best I could above. It's not mandatory to use a UMIK for Dirac Live and I think what you have will work but I can't be certain as I've not tried. As you have the Behringer why not just try for yourself and then only buy a UMIK if you find you have problems?

Thankyou. I appreciate your help. The reason I'm asking the question is to be able to make an informed decision. I could just try my Behringer mic out with Dirac live software and the Minidsp Flex and then order a UMIK-1 if that didn't work our, but I could of chosen that option without even bothering to ask for help/experiences and opinions.

As I'll probably be ordering from Minidsp and getting a package sent from HK it makes sense to include everything I need at that point. I dont want to have to go back and source a UMIK-1 at a later stage, incurring shipping costs and potential import duties and handling charges.
