Is there a way to change the Screen Off delay? The default seems to turn the screen off after 2 minutes.

The problem I have is that other users in my family think the Flex 8 is off. And so they go pressing or turning the knob, either switching Inputs, Muting it or changing Presets.

So they get No sound, and starting fiddling with other things like the TV settings or amplifiers to get sound. Or worse, blaming me. "Why is your stereo system so difficult to use?"

It's the easiest DSPed tri-amped stereo system out there.

I would like to keep the Screen ON.

It would be brilliant if you can set the threshold time, or make it dim to 25% or something after X minutes.

The problem I have is that other users in my family think the Flex 8 is off. And so they go pressing or turning the knob, either switching Inputs, Muting it or changing Presets.

I'd suggest training other users to rotate the volume knob or trying to adjust the volume up/down on the remote to check if your Flex is on.

For info. other miniDSPs have had issues with the OLED displays wearing out when they were on all the time, so the auto-off feature was added to prevent this. I'm not certain the display on the Flex models is identical but it may well be. I'm sharing this as I suspect it's unlikely that an always on option will be added to the Flex models for this reason.

Thanks for your response.

if screen burn-in/failure is the case; then perhaps miniDSP should move to LCD or VFD.

I have an OLED TV from 2014 that’s still going strong.

as for training other users; I’ve tried that but to no avail. It’s straight forward for me, but I’m the engineer/MS DOS kind of guy; the rest of my family are the toaster/coffee machine kind of people; it needs to be intuitive for them to use it.

when the screen is blank; everyone assumes it’s off; so they want to turn it on. Except there’s no dedicated power button. So that knob is tempting to press.

I’ve found with my remote sometimes it doesn’t work without a reset (taking battery out and putting it back in again).

I haven’t even talked about Bluetooth pairing; for many devices there is a dedicated Bluetooth button; or at least a Connect to Bluetooth is a nested menu here I have to teach people how to get it to pair…

After not using BT for a couple of months I forgot and had to find the manual (hint: press and rotate to select Bluetooth input; and then Press and Long Hold to pair).

I get that we love our shiny new Flex 8, and thus may tend to make excuses for it. These sound like petty complaints but actually the UI/UX is what really sets many things apart from the rest.

Yes, this is an irritating aspect of the design.
I think the display should blank after five seconds or so.  Or, be user-adjustable.

Dave.
