Hello!
I’m a newb looking to use my new miniDSP Flex (balanced) with Umik and REW to EQ some stereo Genelec g fives for home theater/Bluetooth use.

Tonight I mounted the speakers to the ceiling and wired everything up through the miniDSP which had been working okay in the original location but it was a bit hard to tell as the speakers were down low and I had been using them quietly.

My question is if the out of box presets do anything to balance/levels? Is there a way to use “no preset” or is one always enabled?

I ask because the left channel seems lower than the right by about 10dB…I thought the Genelecs I bought used might have flaky +10dB switches, turning off the right boost balanced them pretty closely, but that wasn’t the case as going direct to my projector interface resolved the issue. I suspect it’s a cabling issue and will try to isolate that tomorrow but I’m curious if this might be a software setting and I should start there? (No other typical bad cable issues such as noise or dropped signal were observed).

The balance issue occurred regardless of if I used the Bluetooth or analog input. (I’m using output 1&2 TRS->XLR + 20 foot XLR, same XLR was used without the Flex and worked well. Perhaps I kinked the TRS adapter when moving things around.

thanks!

You may as well open up Device Control and just have a look.

I don't know about the Flex models but on some older miniDSPs there were sometimes crossover filters applied by default that could cause confusion. I can't see there being any channel inbalance being present by default though.

My guess is you'll find your issue doesn't lie with your Flex though.

Correct indeed! I torqued the output TRS too hard and loosening it fixed the issue! Sorry for the FUD, hopefully I’ll be back with more advanced questions soon!
