Very disappointed that there is no analog input. Unfortunately MiniDsp does not support DSD formats and so on. How can this problem be solved ? Is there a good analog to digital converter?

I agree.  I use the analog in on my Bluesound node and then connect the node to the minidsp.

Thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately no space to fit an analog input in that tiny box that does a lot already. Maybe in the future we can think of a completely different version in a much bigger format to fit all the wish list..  

BTW, DSD processing on DSP won't happen on basically any product. It's technically impossible from a math point of view.. Just clarifying in case you're looking looking for that feature.  
Most of the customers will notice that the impact of proper room correction and active speakers will indeed dwarf DSD, MQA or high sample rate in an A/B blind test.. Do make sure to trial it if you get a chance.

I have SHD , I have DDRC 24 and I have a lot of SACDs. Now I bought a Flex 8 and I'm trying to figure out how to listen to these discs through it. Need an ADC
 

Thanks for the info.  I miss my old 4X10 which had analog inputs, but it fried from a nearby lightning strike.  I would have bought another one, but alas, it was discontinued.

Please tell us that a full rack format flex with analog input is in the works....

The fact there are no analog inputs ruins this unit for use with any external dacs. Is Minidsp saying the dacs in this unit sound better than high end dacs costing much more than the flex 8. This is a real problem for me and I'm sure a lot of others.

Personally I think the idea of a 'high end' DAC output fed into an ADC, adjusted with DSP and then converted back to analogue using a DAC inside the miniDSP renders the first DAC completely pointless. I can absolutely think of reasons for a demand for an equivalent of the FLEX 8 with an analogue input but this really isn't one of them IMHO.

If someone wants to use a 'high end' DAC with a miniDSP it makes FAR more sense to do so downstream i.e. take the digital outputs of a miniDSP and send these to the 'high end' DAC.

I think you missed the boat on this ..Many of us have been waiting for an upgrade to the 4x10 series ...  You have taken away functionality and forced anyone with analog source to reconfigure their system or look elsewhere....

Please tell us a "successor" to the 4x10 HD is in the works.....
 

I had better explain. I am using the 4x10 as a crossover for my Linkwitz lx521.4 speakers. I stream music from computer and transport to dac, output in analog L&R to preamp, then analog L&R to 4x10 then to the speakers. So without analog inputs on the MiniDSP I have no idea how I can use this.

You would stop using your pre-amp and DAC and connect your digital sources directly to the Flex 8.

Yes, I could do that. However, I am one of those people that can here the difference between components. But I could try that. Thanks

I didn't say that all components sounds the same  . But I would question the value of starting with a digital signal, converting it to analogue and attenuating it, and then converting it back to digital before the real processing and final D/A step happens.

Maybe you've already tried the comparison with your 4x10 HD, but if not maybe give its digital input a try some time...

When audiophiles purchase high-dollar items they're "invested" in them.  They HAVE to be used. 

This basic query (or versions of it) has been mentioned numerous times here on the miniDSP forum.
Unfortunately, sometimes it makes more sense to put the high-dollar gadget on the sidelines.

I'm not sure it's that. Perhaps users are using legacy products because they have to.

Do users who have the 4x10HD have the option to migrate to the Flex 8? Is there a LX521.4 DSP file for the Flex 8?

That way our friend vred can just use his PC directly-

instead of:
PC USB -> Transport -> DAC -> (ADC+DSP+DAC= 4x10HD); can just do 
PC USB -> (DSP+DAC=Flex 8)
