ES9080.

Are you serious about a $5 DAC? What DAC is in FLEX Eight?

He told you seriously, ES9080. And what exactly is wrong with it? The price?

Yeah, I was kidding.  That's not what the DAC's are.
The lettering is really small and I'm having a difficult time reading it, but they look like at least $40 DAC's to me.

Based on the Flex-8 spec of 124 dB SNR, the most likely candidates are ES9039PRO and ES9027PRO.

All other 8-ch DACs (ES9080, ES9006, the ones from TI - PCM16xx, from AKM - AK4438, AK4458 etc) fall below this parameter, and are single-digit price.

FWIW the Flex-2 uses TI PCM 1795.

There's no need to speculate.  The DAC is indeed ES9080.
I have the Flex Eight unit and have looked at the board.  I see two devices, so obviously some paralleling happening which explains the SNR specification.
The performance on my test bench looks very good with very low noise floor and no noise-shaping utilized.

It seems there are trolls operating on all audio forums these days.  Very disappointing, but I guess it's just in the nature of some people.

I have use the Henry matchbox HD to covert SE to balanced. Seems to work well and Ive seen them in eBay from time to time

www.ebay.com/itm/115612746099?epid=14618...tkp%3ABk9SR-Sn7POsYQ

There’s several review scattered over the years indicating that this unit is decent. However I have no idea if the conversion from SE <-> XLR is Hifi audiophile grade. Would be great if someone can confirm.

I’ve seen these go for like $60 a pair sometimes. YMMV

So, maybe they will do it!
