Looking to move to the Flex for my HT but undecided on whether to go balanced or unbalanced.  My pre-pro has both XLR and RCA preouts, so either would be doable.  My 2 subs, although the same model, were purchased at different times so only one has an XLR input.  The other is strictly RCA.  Sub cable runs aren't very far (maybe 6 feet max).  Furthermore, I'd strictly be using the miniDSP to run ezBEQ and for dialing in my Crowson actuators.

Granted, I could use a 2x4HD (did previously, but the input/output configuration leaves a lot to be desired, plus no indications).  I did move to the 10x10HD (for sale), mainly as I needed more than 2 inputs ( I was running both my 2 channel and HT through it.  However, I moved my 2 channel to another solution), plus I liked that all connections were on the back and the indicators on the front..

Spec-wise, the unbalanced and balanced look very close, aside from the output voltage and analog audio input impedance.  If I went balanced, I'd need to buy cables for both inputs / outputs, as well, as no TRS ones on-hand.  So, the balanced would cost an extra $135, assuming I ordered all cables from miniDSP.

So, I'm leaning towards the unbalanced but wondering if any users have thoughts on why the balanced would be the better route..

That would be my inclination too based on what you've said.

Do you have Power Sound Audio subs by any chance? In case it's relevant I'll just say I've used both the unbalanced and balanced inputs on my PSA S1510 with my no apparent issues.

Thanks, Ultrasonic, for the input on balanced versus unbalanced.
No, I have two Rythmik E15's.  I've used unbalanced on these since I've had them and no issues, as well.  I run my AVM subs to the LFE In on the amps, and use the Line In (and onboard sub controls for crossover, phase, etc. as these don't impact the LFE In) for my 2 channel (Rogue RP5).
