Hi Guys,I have a brand new FLEX TRS. I installed and configured it with DSP2x4 and Dirac plugins. All is working I am generally happy, but one thing is not good. When I switch off my Minidsp Flex TRS and it goes into standby mode It makes a short cracking noise - s. the attached wav file @ second 4 . It is not loud, but audible in my active speakers. It is independent from the master volume and always has the same level. I use Volumio on Raspi 4 with SPDIF (Coax) out and go into the FLEX SPDIF input and go then with balanced TRS cables to my Presonus R65 monitor speakers. Raspi 3 is absoluely fine and the speakers either. The crack is only in the FLEX.Is it normal? Do you have the same problem when the device is sent into standby mode?

I hear a quiet click on my Kali IN-8s when I put the Flex TRS into standby. Like what you're hearing, its loudness is independent of the master volume.

I would describe it more as an anomaly than a problem. At my listening position, the recording you shared sounds about the same loudness as my click when I have the master volume set to play music quietly with transient peaks of about 60 dB.

Well, I see that you confirm. This product seems to be designed like this. Even if it is not a big deal it is disapointing for a 600€ device with hi-fi aspirations. And interesstingly when you switch between the presets one ear tha the sound is muted. But it is not when pressing standby.

There is the old adage that one should first power off amps and then pre-amps to avoid any nasties from pre-amps, and for power on pre-amp first, then power amps.  You could avoid the noise by powering off your active speakers before pushing the Flex into standby mode.

I've heard some expensive power amps make some very nasty thumps (speakers moving outward with DC on the amp's output) when being powered on and off, so the Flex is not alone.

Flex has 2Vrms …. No need for a silly preamp

flex has volume, that’s where you need to control volume!

remove the preamp
