TOPIC:

Currently the Flex display is switched off after approximately 1 minute. I appreciate that this might be desirable for listeners in a dark room. However, I would like the option to have the display always on, so that I can easily confirm the volume/preset/Dirac/input. Currently, I have to change the volume to check these settings. 

Thanks for considering this request in a future update! 

 

Yeah , or at least always on while music is playing, then an auto standby

I also miss this basic feature. One should be able to dimm/off or at least leave the display on.

I agree.  It would be nice to allow it to be dimmable for sure.  At least it currently turns off after 1 minute.  I could see OLED burn in being a problem

For info. it was on SHDs which is why the capability to switch the display off was added. This is an option rather than forced behaviour but I'd be reluctant to risk leaving the display on permanently myself.

I had several AV receivers in the last 15 years. The las one was onkyo - the displays were always on, I have never seen any burn in. Basically most of AV recivers work like this without problems.

I do not know, propably not. Onkyo TR-X818 (?). But I had several Samsung mobile phones with OLED either. They never burned in.
But that is not the point: there is no indicator that the device is on. This is the bigger problem. And the stanby LED is on the wrong side. From aside the knob overshadow it and you may overlook it.

The only point I was making was that you can't make direct comparisons to other hardware if they don't use the same display technology. Obviously you can question whether this makes the use of OLED displays a good choice, but given the Flex has one it does have some relevance to the subject of this thread. Samsung mobile phones aren't desperately relevant since their displays aren't on 24/7.

It would be nice if the first button push (whether volume, source, etc.) showed the current status and then the second push would effect a change. Then I wouldn't mind the display turning off.

It's not quite the same but rotating the volume knob to just change it by the smallest increment would do virtually the same thing, and is what I'd do.

Yes, that's what I'm doing. And it is close. But not quite, as Shel Silverstein's character would say. 

Actually, pressing the volume knob displays the current settings, without having to change the volume. That's what I'm doing when I want to refresh my memory of which preset I have selected (I have different Dirac target curves loaded to each of the 4 presets - with varying levels of bass and treble according to the source material).

Good point  . The volume 'trick' is what I do because I use a remote control and there is not equivalent of the basic button push.

Yes. Makes sense. I'm lucky that I use the Flex in a desktop system, so can reach the volume knob 👍
