Today I got the Dirac license key, I went to I stall it and something happened…

I imported the license activation key into the flex and the screen froze for a long time…

after about an hour I decided something went wrong! This is what I did to fix it but first this.

when you get the Dirac upgrade your downloads has a new app for ddrc24… let me make this clear, if you want to toggle between 2x4hd and ddrc24 you need both apps!

After a full reboot after license activation I logged onto the ddrc24 app for the flex. The vu meters were maxed out and the db scale said 3dbfs… I was like what the heck!! 🥵🥵🥵 and the dsp front panel said DSP FAIL!

I simply did a restore dsp and reset all to original. I did all the resets available in the drop down dialogue box. Nothing would work

i realized when I got connect it sent 0bytes and showed connected but wasn’t actually connected.

so i tried connecting to the 2x4hd side…. Nothing….

i turned everything off and back on, swapped usb sockets, and tried again, this time on the ddrc24 app. It connected! I set factory defaults… still vu meters maxed out…. Then I tried switching from configuration 1 to configuration 2. When I did that I got an error that said something was corrupt and asked to reset everything. I said yes!

whollah! Now I can switch between 2x4hd and ddrc24 just fine…. No more DSP FAIL! On front panel.

so….. I realized switching usb sockets during that was a bad idea and made things worse.

if you have errors like that just try to connect to one of the apps…. If no apps connect unplug the flex and plug back in from wall power. Then try and connect again, you should be able to connect to one side. Once connect restore to factory and switch to other app in the switch drop down. Then go to other app and connect and restore to factory

now you should be able to connect to both with no issues.

Good luck

In case this confuses anyone, the thread title and text is mixing up product names.

The 2x4 HD and DDRC-24 are one specific product line, whilst the Flex with and without Dirac Live is another. Whilst currently plugins are shared there is no such thing as a 'Flex 2x4 HD' or a 'Flex DDRC-24'.

It is not intended for the Flex to function in both modes and I believe this was the cause of your issues. People should view the situation as being they either have a Flex without Dirac Live and use the 2x4 HD plugin (and appropriate firmware version), or they have a Flex with Dirac Live for which they should use the DDRC-24 plugin (and appropriate firmware version).

Switching between DDRC-24 and 2x4HD plugin usually works very nicely and without problems.
Each of these plugins has a menu item to switch to the other plugin, respectively.
After choosing that menu item, the plugin disconnects and you have to start the other plugin.
At the startup of the other plugin, you have the choice to reload the previously used configuration.

Actually it’s not mixing anything up sir

the Flex uses the literal 2x4hd and literal ddrc24 plug ins…. In case maybe you didn’t know that.

so it actually is literally a 2x4hd or a ddrc24, but in the flex hardware case…

so when I’m talking about the plugins and apps and such I am using the proper terminology, respectively.

people who own one will absolutely know what I’m talking about as well…. There’s no confusion. I intended it to be that way because it is.

wrong!

you should read the manual.

You absolutely can switch between plugins. They run at different sample rates, so the configurations are NOT interchangeable, nor are the biquads.

But I CAN select the switch in the  drop down dialogue box, and guess what…..  machine reboots into the other platform……

all you do is close the app and log into the other app after the switch in dialogue box

the flex firmware allows you to switch without a firmware upgrade…. I’m guessing it stores both firmware packages in the flex and when you switch it switches, as if it’s a completely different machine….  The ole hex file is non existent in this install and is part of the plug-in. At least that’s my understanding

I did know this and referred to it in my post. My point re. the product naming stands.

However, you and @rbachl have absolutely taught me something new re. the Flex and I stand (well, sit) corrected! As you say, the ability to switch between 2x4 HD and DDRC-24 plugins in covered in the Flex manual (page 46). What I find really weird is that the same is not in the DDRC-24 manual, and my comments reflected what I've understood to be the case for this older unit. It's strange that this new functionality is possible on the Flex whilst using the same plugin, but it's great that this is now possible  .

@denver8me4dinner glad you've got things working well  .

(I do always post to try to be helpful and constructive, not 'score points'. When I'm 'a stickler' sometimes it is genuinely to try to avoid confusion. I certainly don't pretend to know everything and one reason I post is to learn through discussion and am genuinely grateful of being corrected if I have misunderstood something.)
