Me too - I had to unpair my phone from the Flex.

I think the issue with "Adding new feature of autosource selection to BlueTooth when Bluetooth source is paired and play button started on BT source" is that for some of us the "play button started" signal is triggered by an audible notification. So a text message arrives, and the Flex switches from USB to BT. This happens to me on a Samsung Note 20 running Android 12.

Not sure if miniDSP staff monitor these forums, so I just submitted a trouble ticket on this. While composing the message, I realized that a checkbox to control auto-switching is not a good solution. If the Flex doesn't switch, it becomes a black hole for audio output from connected BT devices.

The real issue here is having the Flex maintain Bluetooth connections when the current input channel is not BT. It should keep the Bluetooth transceiver OFF unless the input is BT.

With firmware 1.25, if the Flex is set for any input other than BT, my phone will produce no notification or other sounds whenever it is within range of the Flex until I manually disconnect it via my phone's Bluetooth control panel. And any time the Flex transitions from standby to active, it will hijack my phone's audio again.

What purpose is served by maintaining a connection to a paired device when input is not BT? All it produces is a negative experience for the user. No one ever wants their phone playing audio to a device that is not configured to reproduce that audio!

The Bluetooth connection should be dropped when input is changed from BT, and it should only be established when input is set to BT. I think the simple way to make that happen would be to turn the Flex's Bluetooth transceiver OFF when the input is not BT and ON when it is BT.

I heard back from Support regarding the remaining Bluetooth misbehavior. Those of us who use interfaces other than BT must pair and unpair each time we use BT to avoid the audio hijacking pitfall. If any of you share my concern, you may want to open your own tickets:

For now on, it's not a feature we support I'm afraid on this firmware and can't just keep spinning new rev on each customer request unfortunately.. It would be impossible to maintain an engineering release schedule.

Maybe just turn off the USB BT streaming from your phone? i.e. unpair.

That seems like a pretty thinly veiled "FU Customer" type of response.  This seems like such an easy fix.  Just only use BT when the user selects BT from the remote or the dial.  What could be easier?

I have the impression that the MiniDSP team doesn't monitor these forums closely - if that's true:

It's an old thread and I came here looking for a solution but unfortunately there are no updates here!
This bluetooth auto switching is driving me crazy too. The entire family uses bluetooth from their phone, once in a while, so it's really a pain to switch all bluetooth off/unpair when you want to use Toslink / other sources...  :(

Such a small and simple issue to fix with a software update, can cause so much frustration.
It's sad that a company doesn't watch these forums to get customer feedback and improve their products, what a shame!

I'm not seeing any improvements to Bluetooth in the change log since v1.25. The "IIRC" doesn't inspire confidence.
