Hi All,

I would like to ask a general question about room correction:
What shall be the ideal order of the followings:
- Room correction EQ
- Speaker distance setting
- Level setting
- Crossover setting

Currently the order I have is the following: Crossover -> Distance -> Level -> EQ
But I was reading on other forums that EQ shall come before setting the crossover...in that case the order might be Distance -> Level -> EQ -> Crossover or EQ -> Crossover -> Distance -> Level

Any suggestions please?

Let's see how we can help. :-)
I think that there are few things to try to isolate here.
- Driver EQ (i.e. each individual unit)
- Speaker EQ (i.e. if you have multiway, when combined)
- Room EQ.

While it's all EQ in the end, it's a bit confusing isn't it? :-)
- Driver EQ would be near field (i.e. microphone close to speaker to measure the actual driver response inside that box.) You'd figure out your crossover from that measurement.
- Speaker EQ is when you have done your crossovers, see how they match. You will tune a bit the delays in there to get a good matching over the "overlap".
- Finally, when you move to room eq (i.e. microphone actually further away from the speaker). You will start to make measurement of speaker + room.

The preference is to start tuning the speaker first so you have a good basis.
For overall "Room correction", you can do that to some extend with REW. (e.g. low frequency). You may need to use Dirac for better results (e.g. www.minidsp.com/applications/digital-roo...rc-24-for-2-1-system)

Thank you for the answer!

I have a 2.1 setup (3 channels using U-DAC8), the crossover for the monitor speakers is set, I cannot change that but I can change the crossover for the subwoofer

What I have done is that I measured the system with UMIK-1 (at listening position, Room EQ) with the sub crossover switched off (full range signal to all speakers) did the EQing then I configured the crossover - further measurements to see where the crossover is best, 40-80Hz at 10Hz increments - then finally the delay and the level setting

What do you think about this?

Ok, thanks for the clarifications.
- Only issue is that you have limited control over the L&R (no crossover). That might throw off a bit your measurements (i.e. can't do much about it). Maybe see if your software player can add crossovers on these channels? e.g. JRiver
- Also, when you did the EQ, you're only doing for L&R? Why not EQ for the whole system (i.e. inc the sub).

Yes, I have no control on the L&R crossover, only on the sub crossover
I am EQing the whole system, not just the sub (all 3 channels separately)

I have pretty much the same questions... I am putting up a 3 way active system. Why should I measure near field instead of from listening position? At which point do I use rePhase? using near field measurements or listening position measurements?
