I have seen some references to OPSODIS and am considering a DIY system.

I havent yet done enough study to understand the system design and required transfer functions.
Has anyone done this work and if so would you be willing to provide some guidance on how to set up the systems driver locations and DSP?
Would a MiniDSP 2 x 8 provide the required functionality?

@ roflynn

Are you refering to Marantz's implementation for 3D sound? If so, I'm afraid that we're not knowledgeable enough on what they are doing. You'd also want to keep an eye on potential patent they may have (i.e. U don't want to infringe on it). AES papers are typically a good place to start.

Yes I am refering to the process used by Marantz.
The initial work was done at University of Southampton. See; resource.isvr.soton.ac.uk/FDAG/VAP/html/osd.html
Papers guiding to the design are noted here: resource.isvr.soton.ac.uk/FDAG/VAP/html/osd_ref.html These papers are accessible on-line. The process has been implemented by others using DSP products (see: www.diyaudio.com/forums/multi-way/132847...-1-introduction.html).

The little I have read infers there is limited benefit over stereo when two or more people are listening, though some individual listeners are very happy with their implementation of crosstalk cancelation / ambiophonic solutions. The OSD system 'feels' like a leading surround cross talk cancellation method and I understand that the Bacch Filters were developed to realise the same potential in a two speaker system rather than the many required of OSD.

Doing this may be a lot of work with an OpenDRC or miniSHARC though I can imagine a path ahead. The path is not as clear using the 2 x 8 that I own. The option of doing the work myself might take some time and I wanted to know if anyone else had the answers already.

Thanks for the info and for sharing these links... interesting work indeed.
We did develop a solution based on ambiophonics (www.ambio4you.com) and I wonder if this is somewhat similar.. anyway, interesting work. Need to read more first. :-)
