I have 3 headphones: Sennheiser HD 650, Focal Elex and Stax SR-009. I used the ears to measure them and EQ them. All fine there.
However, THD +N readings at 90, 95, 100 db SPL show an increase of THD + N around 4 KHz. In professional measurements (Innerfidelity, etc) none of these headphones has an issue at 4 KHz.
At 90 db the errors are around 0.2. At 95 they are around 0.5 and 1% at 100db SPL.
All these 3 headphones have 100db SPL measurements somewhere on the Net and the THD + N is 0.2 or lower not 1%.
Any ideas why the EARS say differently?
Is this an artifact of the miniDsp EAR?
