Dear DevTeam,
As you can see I've been having a problem with the license validation in the Dirac Live Calibration stage. For my username I have used my email address as required in the serial activation stage, and the password used at that stage (which was the same as my general MiniDSP password). I try to validate and it says my username is not valid. Also it is interesting that the validation pop up screen closes after a while regardless of what is put in. I have plugged and unplugged the Dirac and done a cold boot on the computer (W7 64).
Can I (you) reset my serial activation and go back to square one?
All a bit frustrating but I am sure that I have "ticked all the boxes" :( :(
cheers
Grant

Grant,
It may be totally unrelated but have you made sure your PC has the pre-reqs mentioned in the manual?

2.2 SOFTWARE INSTALLATION AND LICENSE ACTIVATION
2.2.1 Framework installation
Prior to installing the software, download and install the following frameworks. You will need to accept the license agreements in order to successfully complete the installation. If you haven’t updated these recently, check that you have the latest versions prior to running the miniDSP install programs.
 Microsoft .NET framework (version 3.5 or later)
 Latest version of Adobe Flash
 Latest version of Adobe Air
 Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package: for x86 (32-bit operating system) or x64 (64-bit operating system).

Dear DevTeam, Tim and Thomas,
Well that's 5 days I won't get back again ;) .
First off DevTeam don't rush off to reset my Dirac account. All is working now and working well with the first preset up and running. Harpsicord never sounded better :-).
My failure: I was using the HTPC and the keyboard I use is the Logitech diNovo (remember those?). It generally is great for the "10ft interface". But it has developed a couple of sticky keys- one of them being the "m" key. So in my account setup the " .com.au" in my address became " .co.au". And then rather than typing out the "verify" I just copy and pasted  . So I spent 5 days trying every variation of my user name and password that I thought possible. DOH.
Many thanks Tim and Thomas for your suggestions.
cheers

@ Grant,

Glad to hear that you got it figured out! You got us a bit perpexled at the beginning.
Like any products and it documentation, we always need to tweak over time the level of details (E.g. Dirac activation vs miniDSP account number). For that matter, we'd like to thank you all of early adopters for their support and now part of the community with their experience.

We're glad to hear that you're all getting to enjoy Dirac in a box! Please keep feeding us with your feedback, we're always looking forward to hear more! :-)

Have a fun Corrected Music Time! :-)

I just got my DDRC-22D today, order #: a2c9011494. However there are no files in the DIRAC section of my downloads (or in any other section). So I cannot activate it. Moreover when I tried to post to your forum to ask about this, it said my IP address has been flagged as spam.

@ Steven,
I believe that our team already got back to you but please let us know if you have any further issues. Sorry for the inconvenience!

Another update. Now that I had the mic USB cable firmly attached I re-ran the procedure. This time I made sure to measure a larger area, a bit wider than 3', as well as putting the mic higher and lower. When this filter was added things were much improved. There is a better sense of space and none of the slightly clinical sound the first filter had. Very impressive now!

Tim

@ Tim

Great hearing that you got the UMIK-1 cable issue figured out. On the first use, it's indeed a bit harder to stick the USB cable in. We'll add a note to the user manual thanks for your feedback. Also great hearing about the improved response and glad to hear you're enjoying it!
With regards to the LED, let's see what we can do from our side. We can keep you updated.

Hello DevTeam,
Me again, but no complaints :) . Not helping myself, I looked inside the box to see what's there - more to actually check that if I want to convert my analog version to a digital version that it would be possible (in the future). I believe it can :) . Got me thinking though, can the Shark be connected directly to the 2X8 via the I2S? This would negate the D/A A/D interface between the 2 boxes. I do understand the potential contractual obligations with Dirac may prevent this.
cheers

A big THANK YOU to the team at miniDSP

You can see my 3 posts on my 2 cents of my listening observations, and my speculation of what's going on

To fellow HiFi adventurers

- get a boom mic stand

- read the instructions

- limit the DRC frequency window

- enjoy !

Thanks, but regarding limiting the DRC frequency window I would suggest to new users to make at least one filter with full correction. My experience (with the software version) is that it takes a little more time to get used to it but I discovered that I only listen to full range correction after a while. It will also bring back life and air in rooms with apparently too much damping.

I just created a 2nd filter where I cut off the correction at 700Hz. So far I like the difference. While the full range makes things very sharp and focused, I find there appears to be a subtle ringing to certain frequencies such as some female voice, violins and horns. Not all, just some notes. The limit also makes the sound a bit more full and not quite as clinical. I expect to keep playing, might as well use all 4 slots.

Anybody know if I can do a single measurement process for a single speaker and then load them into both channels? In some instances, it would be because both speaekers would be outdoors in the same sound environment and I don't want to take chances on differences in FR correction. Or if you can take two L/R files and average them? [of course, I understand that the system could find and fix big FR errors that can sometimes exist between drivers, so I'd want to take a look first]

Also, is there a way to gate out any measurement beyond, say, 3-5ms? I might want to measure just FR indoors, and then apply it to an outdoor, free hanging speaker. I may just want to use the correction to deal with the speaeker's response in some instances.

OTOH, that makes a good case for Acourate DRC or some other FR only system, doesn't it?

I absolutely agree with AJ that everyone should try a full filter first. It gives you a baseline of what the unit can do.

What I really like about the software is that it does the left and right channels separately and you can see what is going on

I really should redo the measurements, but I am enjoying the sound and the music so much. The system is fun to listen to. I never understood PRAT (Pace, Rythum and Timing) that some audiophiles go on about, in particular British audiophiles, but know I think I am starting to get any idea of what they are going on about :-)

@ Eurodriver,

Thanks so much for your feedback and a big thank you to you for sharing all your experiences with the community! We all look forward to hearing more of everybody's feedback on the platform. It's really key for us as we always look to improve the miniDSP experience. Your comments aren't going to death ears. :-)

Okay....I found the manual, so it looks like this thing is automated for stereo, which is a bit of a bummer, because in many instances, I might actually be using dual mono setups, because the system may be 70V. It would be nice to integrate the option to measure a single speaker, then measure the second one, and assume that they are in different rooms. I know this may not be that popular for home, but for business, it sure would be.

Secondly, I just realized (duh) that you have to have the computer where the stereo system is AND where the speakers are at the same time. That can be difficult in many instances. Sometimes, the system could be 100' away. I'm assuming that the software won't recognize a USB to ethernet adaptor, so......what's the solution? Very long USB cords? I don't know if USB can work at some of these distances.
