Hi,

I am planning to use a Center channel to set a two seat Tune. Is a proper center channel processing possible in C-dsp 8x12 using DIRAC?

You would need an upmixer upstream

then Dirac could set gains and delays and eq perfect for that channel

you can do a L+R and sum them together to a si for channel , you just can’t extract L or R

ypu can do a L-R for the rears however

I would do a L+R on center , add rear processing and do about 10ms on rears after Dirac (not the 28ms)

then when you take your measurements use the two seat algorithm in Dirac as directed

then after Dirac adjust the output on center so the stage depth and imaging works properly

that should do it

I would definitely make a 1 seat configuration using the method I created and ANU on DIYma had made a how to page on , for when your driving by yourself (you’ll appreciate that tune a lot more)

center channels have a difficult time imaging outside the car.

i believe I posted that paper on here also somewhere

Here it is

there’s two methods

1 keeping the crossover phase shift in multi channel

2 linear phase using multi channel (which is an appendix)

Yes it is possible. I already had a helix V12MK2 with center channel working great using,, virtual channels but I wanted to see if it would work with DIRAC so I purchased the cdsp 8x12 and use it upstream from the Helix because the Helix is an amplifier  so it had to be upstream. It worked great using DIRAC with the Helix Center Channel upmixing. I'm still trying to figure out the best way to do it I have a really good tune but I've been experimenting with different ways to do it the measurements, and my last 10 tries haven't been as successful but it's me experimenting with different microphone positions during the DIRAC measuring and different ways to route the channels. I wish that I had two cdsp 8x12 because I have so many channels I really need more than eight channels of DIRAC and that has been my main problem that I'm trying to overcome. So far what has worked the best was using two channels for mids/tweeters two channels for the center channel(you need a right and left to upmix to center and remove 20% of the center from right/left using virtual channels) and two channels for the front doors and two channels for my two subwoofers. I have also gotten it to work good using the center channels along with the mids/tweets and using the other channels for the rear the doors and the subwoofers. The Helix virtual channels is awesome and they did a great job with that but I think they dropped the ball with not having DIRAC as a part of their processors. Probably due to not having sharc processors but if they were to add DIRAC, Helix would be by far the best DSP on the market.
