Hey everyone. I'm not a technical wizard so would appreciate some advice. I've got the minidsp 2x4hd and to date I used REW to measure my room response then generated some filters in the software to correct to my desired curve. This worked pretty well..... But the nagging thought in my head... Could it be better?

I'm considering the Dirac live upgrade but I'm not clear if I'm paying for more automation, or better filters for better sound. Maybe both? Will I get audibly better results. Appreciate your help.

System is 2.2 with the 2 subs taking speak level input from the amp. So it's kinda just a stereo setup.... Kinda

Thanks peeps!

What amp is it? Does it have a theatre pass through option and/or pre-amp out/main in connections? Ideally you want to use the 2x4HD to control volume so you can have more control over the sub's integration.

I've an SHD in a 2.2 system and have used MSO to integrate the subs and minimise seat to seat variation before then running dirac. The results are excellent.

Dirac gives you more than I think you can do with REW alone, but MSO is a must with dual subs.
Warning: Just because I'm a 'Platinum' member, doesn't mean I know what I'm talking about... It just means I've asked too many questions!!

It's a stereo amp with preamp out/in. Currently the 2x4hd takes digital input, then runs it into the preamp. I've bypassed the preamp previously but i came up against an annoying background hiss when the dsp fed directly into the power amp. There are many posts on this topic on these forums. Anyway, i found it annoying enough to go back to using the preamp.

Try removing the preamp and using the minidsp as the preamp!

the minidsp has a mater volume, that is where it should be used. If you turn the minidsp to -72db is the hiss gone?

I believe it will be…..

Sadly not... If you do a quick search for hiss on the general forum you'll find many threads of people running the 2x4 as or after the volume control and getting a constant hiss.
