a miniDSP product that can support Dirac DLBC in a 5.1 or 7.1 system with ?. In other words, am I the only one who will never invest in a Dolby Atmos system with 12-16 channels but enjoys experiencing surround sound in 5.1 (or 7.1) but would like to have Dirac 3.0 full version? In fact, I see miniDSP developing excellent alternatives for 2.1, can we push further towards intermediate home theater systems ?

You're not the only one.  Most of don't have the resources/room for a dozen speakers and 5.1 is all we need.  I've wanted to buy a MiniDSP product for several years but each time I go through the product listing there's nothing there to meet my needs.  HDMI in, Dirac Live 3.0, Optical, HDMI, or [gasp] 5 balanced audio lines out.

I've been perplexed about this.  I would think there's a bigger market for a 5.1/7.1 system than a 2.1 system or at the very least a significant market.

Youpee! I am sur there is more than 2 of us. There is a bigger market, in my opinion, especially if we take into account that cableboxes only transmit an LPCM stereo encoded signal for 5.1 at most

It's hard to find a perfect item. What is most needed is probably searching time and patience  Elastic man

to get what I want, I must buy a new receiver which many of them have flawed implemnentation of Dirac (Arcam, not to mention Denon Onkio etc) or pay more than 8KCan $. So everything between 1K$ and 3K$ will have a GO!

Another nanoAVR type device with Dirac please is long overdue. With HDMI in/out so it can sit between Blu-ray player and AVR and also analogue out to feed multiple Subs thus avoiding the AVR's bass management.

That’s silly… amp only had HDMI….
boring amp…

so start to afford it , sell that thing , and shop efficiently instead of brands

look for good specs and low noise and get a amp that has analog and make life so much easier

Hi @denver8me4dinner, come on, hdmi is not an unreasonable request and neither 88d or 88a are practical in this application. The 88d accepts 4x 2 channel digital inputs, it doesn't accept a single 5.1 input and split the channels internally itself from what I can see (feel free to correct me here and point me to the page in the manual that says different if I've missed it). The 88a is a possibility but to slot it in the chain you need to do all your watching via a player that has 6 channel out and also have a processor/av amp with 6channel input, or alternatively you need to put it between a processor and power amp and not everyone has that type of set up. You can't paint all AV amps with the same brush and say they are no good. For most people that are using a Blu-ray player or streaming, they have a device already with hdmi out and all processors and av amps have hdmi in. Minidsp doesn't strike me as being elitist so why not have a device that doesn't need loads of connections and simply sits between the two? That may not suit you but it would suit the vast majority don't you think?
