Currently I stream via Tidal with MQA - as I understand it, if I implement Dirac, not only will I lose my MQA but I will lose all Hi Res playback.  Is this correct or am I misunderstanding Dirac?

Thanks,
Russ

The sample frequency used for Dirac Live depends on the hardware. It is 96 kHz on the SHD Series but 48 kHz on the Flex and DDRC-24 as examples.

It depends on the current bass frequency response in your room, but for me in my room the benefit of Dirac Live easily trumps any possible difference for high-res.

Dont worry about it. Use Dirac. Hi-res useful at the recording and mastering stage rather than for playbac.

Thanks everyone - since apparently my 2x8 kit can't be upgraded to run Dirac I am looking at getting a Flex when they are back in stock.  I believe I can live without the high res and the MQA but I wanted to make sure that the Dirac would make a great enough improvement to warrant the lose.

The limit of human hearing is 20kHz when you're very young then I think I've read by the time you're 40years old you can't hear anything over 16kHz, so don't worry about 'loosing' the ability to playback hires. The only thing those recordings have above 20kHz is noise that you really don't want your equipment attempting to playback anyway.

I have a ddrc22, a flex, and an 8x12dl
and an OpenDrc, and a ambio, and several 2x4hds and all kinds of mini

i also use tidal MQA, on my full 96k system with 2x4hds with fir crossovers and a ddrc22 96k Dirac box , my flex sounds every bit as good….

worry more about good speakers and placement and let Dirac do the rest

you won’t be disappointed
