Hi all,

I am thinking of adding Dirac Live to my 2x4HD turning it into a DDRC-24. I only use the 2x4HD for my dual subs in a music-only system. I run a cable from my preamp's sub out(Parasound P6) to the 2x4HD, then use 2 output channels from the 2x4 to the subs. My main speakers use the P6's filtered hi pass output at 80hz, so only low bass(sub) frequencies are going through the 2x4HD. I used REW with a UMIK-1 and have the subs sounding very good. I am wondering if adding Dirac will work in this configuration and give me an improvement.

Any guidance is greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Ed

If you were running your mains off the 2x4HD I’d say go for Dirac but if it’s just your subs maybe start with multi-sub optimiser (MSO) first. It’s free and more powerful for sub integration than Dirac.

That looks interesting, and lots of learning involved!

That would require lots of time to take measurements in REW, figure out how to setup the MSO stuff and migrate the filters to the 2x4HD. I'm not averse to attempting that, just not sure I want to redo what I have. I guess I will see how it goes tomorrow at a friend's house who will be running Dirac for his new jbl Synthesis processor.

Find and follow (to the letter) minidsp's tutorial on using MSO. It's a few hours the first time. I gave it a go half expecting something to go wrong(!) but it didn't. The tutorial is written clearly and takes you through each step - honestly take your time and you can't go wrong.

I don't believe it is possible to use Dirac Live on the DDRC-24 just for subwoofers, since the sources that Dirac sends the test sigals too need to output high frequenceis too.

Note that there are differenct vesions of Dirac Live, and what is possible on an AVR is not the same as what a DDRC-24 can do.
